Rail Travel: Tips on Cheap Tickets

Thanks a lot pmm1981. That's a big difference. I take it that there's no possibility of getting kicked off or charged extra by using all these tickets, staying on trains etc? You can probably tell I don't use trains

No as long as the train you are travelling on calls at the stations where the tickets change you are perfectly entitled to do this.0

Can anyone help with sorting an upcoming train journey….
Me & my husband want to take our 4 yr son for a daytrip to the nation history museum meaning getting the train from Nottingham to London.
Not really sure where to start with looking for the cheapest fares... We are very flexable with travel but thinking of going sometime in March....maybe midweek if it works out cheaper.
Any advice greatfully recieved

1. Don't leave it till last moment, if you can buy well in advance then get some cheap Advance singles, but compare the total price of the advance singles to that of an Off Peak return to make sure its cheaper.
2. If getting advance singles, then use either East Coast website or East Midlands trains website as both offer online discounts on their advance ticket services.
3. A 4 yr old doesn't have to pay for his ticket, but getting a family railcard and getting him a child ticket will lower the price of the adult tickets by a 1/3rd. For a one off journey might not be cheaper but worth checking or if you are planning more trips then definitely worth it, Family Railcard for £19.50 25% Off
4. Check out Megabus.com (its a train service) they have very cheap tickets Nottingham to London but timings can be a problem.
5. If you have any fixed dates in mind then post back and I'm sure somebody on the forum will help find cheap tickets for you.
Advance singles Nottingham to London have already been released for March so worth checking now.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
