I want to take the children to see my brother and family.

    They live in Pinner.

    We live in Leicester

    We have a family/friends railcard.

Ideally I would like to travel on a Friday evening (around 6pm - 7pm) and come home on a Sunday afternoon time.

I'd be happy to avoid London if it's cheaper - the prices I seem to come up with are HUGE! There are 3 adults and 1 child in the group.

Thanks so much for any help, I seem to be going round in circles finding a decent price for the journey.
So.. what's your idea of HUGE?
It may not be the same as every one else. ;)

Picking a weekend at random... 15/17 Oct.
Three adults and one child with a F&F railcard can do Leicester to Pinner (Zone U1245 Londn) for £34.70 out and £47.70 back using Advance Singles.

Total = £82.40. Is that huge?

    Info from East Coast Trains.

Hey, that's excellent - don't know what I was doing wrong - my idea of huge (ooh matron) is over £300 - around £320 I think it was.

    Brilliant, thanks so much.xx.

The train return ticket sometimes has 1 months validity times. In my experience, sometimes happen that my ticket which is either Out or in Journey was not Punched/Marked/Stamped. As there is no name in it, this will mean that other people could still use it before the expire date.

If w sell e could sell or buy such ticket for person whio need with a bargain price.

Do you know where could we get further info about this, such as website to sell/buy those kind of ticket ?

If it has passed through a barrier, you may encounter "difficulties".

If we buy open return ticket, it will normally have 30 days validity for return journey. So we defenitely could still use it in case it has not been punched/marked or swallow in the ticket barrier. I have heard that in Nottingham there is a place to get such ticket.

Other people who need that just for single journey, or even us if we want to travel to those destination mention on the ticket could buy from people with a bargain price.

Such resale of tickets is not legal - you won't find anywhere openly offering it.

Ebay for example will remove any such adverts as soon asd they are brough to its attention.

Just in case anyone is remotely interested in my ramblings on the previous page, I caught the Crewe-Hereford train today that I didn't have a seat res. for, and luckily the ticket inspector just glanced at the overall Southport-Hereford ticket and didn't ask for anything else. Still not sure where I would have stood (literally lol) if he had demanded to see an appropriate seat res.

So that's alright then. I'll be keeping an eye out for the same thing happening when I buy tickets in future.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

In the past I have used this to my advantage on the "connecting" train by leaving earlier so I can have a more leisurely journey. You can't produce something you weren't given!

Just to back up my previous post, if you purchase a ticket from a third party and it has been previously used in a barrier you will not get through. You could be prosecuted for fare evasion. This is why on many routes open returns are not offered.

Its just not worth it, there are plenty of people offering advice on here how to get a ticket cheaply and legitimately.
