    There's a £47.60 if you can depart at 6.26 a.m.

    Got any railcards?

Thats cheaper. Have a family railcard. But traveling on my own. I'm 45 not a student. What railcards are available?
    thanks

Sounds like you're like me and don't qualify for any railcards to travel on your own. Just thought I'd ask in case you didn't know about them. Apart from the Young Persons (under 25) or Family cards, the only other one that I know of is for over-60s.

I found the £47.60 on the National Express site - if it is any good for you I'd book it a.s.a.p. as it's the only cheaper one left for that day.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • Martin, as ever you are completely right! I've just been looking into return tickets from London to Great Malvern in July. All the usual suspects (Nationalrail.co.uk / Thetrainline.com/ Raileasy.co.uk) have quoted me £46 +, but booking separately with Virgin trains from London > Birmingham, then Birmingham > Great Malvern as 2 separate journeys has brought it down to £21. Many thanks.
  • Tip for anyone doing Liverpool-Glasgow.

Booking last minute I was being offered £63 return.

    Instead try:
Liverpool - Preston return, about £10.
Preston - Glasgow return, about £30.

£20+ saved, score! The man at the ticket office was really surprised at how cheap it was.

The best tip I could give for this one is to buy advance single tickets from the NXEC website as you will get a 10% discount, this will reduce the price from £87.60 to £78

You could try splitting at London and Exeter for some more savings.

Buy an ANYTIME DAY RETURN from Chatham to London Bridge at £26.20.... you can break your journey at Stone Crossing without problems.
Then change to Northern Line to Old Street.
Someone else will be able to tell you about ways to pay for the Underground trip... Oyster cards, Travelcards etc are a black art.

nationalexpresseastcoast.com is currently doing advance tickets for those dates at £55.20 out and £48.50 return, if you're not fussed what time of day you travel on those dates :)
