Well this advance ticket business does seem a bit of a lottery!
Now there are many £19.50 tickets for the outbound leg, but none at all for the return leg. Again, this is from NXEC site.

It just keeps changing but cant seem to book both legs of the journey
  • Its not just southern thats offering cheap tickets out of london. Try great western with £4 single tickets paddington to oxford, cheaper with railcards

Having a nightmare trying to find cheap Edinburgh to London tickets! I have tried most of the tips and tricks and I have went looking for the cheap £9 singles that the trainline and National Express are running which started yesterday and was mentioned in this weeks news letter.

Has anyone actully found any of these cheap £9 fares? I had the same problem a few weeks ago trying to find cheap fares Edinburgh to York (again there was meant to be a cheap single propo of £14 singles on, on the TV and at the stations - couldn't seem to find any of them either!) and I was looking 12 weeks in advance etc. Tt just seems like there is NOTHING!!!

I'm trying to drive down the cost of my summer holiday (& have had good success with flights and hotels etc) but getting from Edinburgh to London ONE WAY is the same as a return flight to Morocco! - No Scottish airports go to Morocco  so have to go from London...... The coach isn't any better (almost as expensive as the train and takes 11hrs!) any help or suggestions apprecated!

When is your travel date?? 12 weeks is often too early for advance fares.

However if the coach is almost as expensive as the train that suggests you HAVE found cheap train tickets - just not the cheapest that are sometimes available.

There's plenty of £9 tickets available. What dates were you looking at?
Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place

Sorry forgot the dates - 2nd or 3rd of July (could be as late as 6th) and returning 14-18th July (flexible on date but don't need a flexi ticket! I can pick a date and time and off peak etc to get the best price) and its for me and my friend!

Cheapset train I could find thid moring was £96 RTN - which seems alot I have managed £56 RTN before - although this is mid summer holidays, so mayby that is why? Thanks

You're outward dates are during a period which NXEC say there is limited availability on the Edinburgh route, and that appears to be the case. You may need to delay until the 6th when there are trains with the £9 fare available from 11am. Coming back you shouldn't have any problems finding the £9 fare. Edited to add there are £9 fares available on the afternoon of the 2nd.

I've found that you must book through this link http://www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com/9, and click on enter your travel requirements now, otherwise the £9 fares don't show up if you go through NXEC booking engine from their front page.

Hi, I have a couple of questions, not sure whether I'm better posting here or making my own topic, so I'll see what response I get.

Have just tried asking The Train Line the same questions but it's like talking to a brick wall.

I'm wanting to travel from Manchester Airport to Hull on 19th July, on a train around 9am (flight due back at 7.15).

Two questions, at the moment there are no airport advance tickets available for this time, though there are others available the same day, anyone any idea if this may change?

Next question, for the journey to to Manchester airport I've booked seperate tickets, from Hull to Leeds then Leeds to Manchester Airport, it's worked out £8.50 each using the £5 off vouchers around at the minute. I could do a similar thing coming back, but I'm worried what would happen if we were delayed. I could use the Manc to Hull ticket up to three hours later, but would I lose my Leeds ticket?

    Has anyone any ideas?

I'm trying to do it as cheap as possible.

It's just possible but exceedingly unlikely that further cheap tickets will become available if there are already tickets released for that day.

Yes you would lose the Leeds ticket.
