Hello everyone!I am new in this forum. Can anyone to help me to find cheap tickets from London area to Grantham?Normaly I travel Friday evening or Saturday Morning and I return Saturday evening or Sunday evening.MegaBus(train) only travel to Nottingham and I suppose do not go via Grantham.Sometimes I buy in advance and I can get prices like 15 pounds less 11% (online).Next week ticket costs 20 pounds.Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Book earlier
    Choose a less busy time
Check if split ticketing at Peterborough helps - my instinct says it won't but it's worth a try.

Newbie here and think I may have already posted in the wrong place

Impressed by the knowledgeable people on here so please can you help?

Scenario: return train journey peak times 5 days a week for a year.

Which would be cheaper? Using a 18-25 rail card each day or buying a monthly/yearly season ticket?

Sorry but my brain's aching from trying to do the maths! HELP!

It depends very much on the journey - season tickets do not have a fixed relationship to standard tickets.

    So more info needed.

Plus also need to bear in mind the minimum fares if travelling before 10am on the railcard:
    http://www.16-25railcard.co.uk/what-is-a-16-25-railcard/minimum-fares

Interesting also to see the quote on that page:
If you travel regularly before 10am, then a weekly or monthly season ticket may be more appropriate (Railcard discount on these tickets not applicable).

Thank you very much for that info. I hadn't found out about the minimum fare bit - will now check to see how much it is and work from there.
  • I can't believe this price increase malarkey

My usual train to London was £5 single at that particular time in the morning. It is now £35 (and that is using the cheap ticket alert on trainline - tickets just released this evening).

Ticket splitting isn't working for me either. Dunno what to do now

Split Advance tickets at Birmingham New St, got the price down to £44

Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time at Birmingham to catch your connection.

Hi, like everyone else I'm trying to get the cheapest tickets possible.

My journey is from Preston to London on 21 March returning the next day (weekend visit). The cheapeast I've seen so far are around £31 out & £35 return journey (i.e. 2 singles). Does anyone know if this is likely to get any cheaper so it's worth hanging on or should I just go ahead & book???

    Thanks Sue
