O2 - Favourite Place - Can anyone see a catch?
Hi all, a little back story first ;-)
I live in England my girlfriend is from Ireland. She spends half her time over here but when she goes back we both manage to run up extremely high phone bills. I’m with O2 and I’ve got my international bolt-ons etc but still run up a phone bill of over £100 a month. I think I’ve found a way to save a few pennies but wanted to know if someone could see a problem that I couldn’t.
- I get her an O2 pay as you go phone with the Ireland bolt-on (so it doesn’t cost her to receive calls and texts.)
- I get an O2 - Favourite Place pay as you go sim.
- I top up £30 on my phone so I can call her for unlimited mins until her glorious return :-D
Anyone see any issues? Will O2 screw me because she's abroad? Will 'favourite place' mean favourite place in england only??
Thanks.

Check the terms and conditions of it, I guess it would depends what part of Ireland?
I know with O2 contract on the O2 30 tarriff you get the unlimited Ireland calls for free.
Would that work out cheaper?0 -
I live in UK, my OH lives in Ireland and we had the same problem.
Our way to get around it...
...Both get a Vodafone Ireland sim card. Top up with €20 on each phone. This enables OH in Ireland to get free calls and texts to any Vodafone Ireland number. In the UK you don't pay to recieve calls so it's essentially free calls. She can also text you for free and you only pay 13c to send a text to her. Therefore the only thing you ever pay for is your text messages to her.
