Asda grocery home delivery (or not!)

Has anyone else noticed a recent change in the quality of service on the asda grocery home deliveries?
I noticed the new web site seemed harder to navigate for me, but thought i would stick with it as i have always been ok with asda, never had a problem, until today.
My shopping was due between 5 and 7pm, and it never showed up, I rang the (very expensive) number at 7.15, no answer, tried again at 7.30, just after the asda van drove up my road, delivered to my neighbour literally 5 doors away, the DROVE OFF
The rather unhelpful lady on the end of the phone informed me that the shopping now all comes from a central store in Leeds, (25 miles away), and they were running late.
I asked how late, "oh about an hour and a half"
I told her this was unaaceptable and they hadn't even rung me to tell me this, (which they have in the past).
So, it's no longer a local store that delivers, my shopping has been running around west yorkshire for over 4 hours in a van (it's just turned up now 9pm!!, Hubby told them we've cancelled order so they have had to go all way back).
I told lady on phone that it was a total waste of petrol and time for the van to deliver to my neighbour then go back to leeds and then come back to me, crazy! Told them I wont use them again, i am disabled and its only way i can get my shopping if hubby is at work, but i will use sainsburys now.
To make things worse, the only way to contact them is the 5p per minute phone number.
Not impressed.

My problems with Asda weren't that bad, but the one time I used them for delivery they forgot all my frozen items. They brought them the next day, but I didn't even get an apology.

It always seems alright for me with Asda. I use Asda and Tesco 50/50 and Tesco have been late twice and both times I have rang up to ask where they were (I normally give them 30mins) they have apologised to say running late and refunded the delivery charge.
Did you by any chance pay £3.50 for delivery from Asda? Only I think that they are overstretching themselves with the "van in your area" boast.

My delivery cost would have been £3.50 but i used a voucher from here to save the cost, but thats the irony, the van WAS in my area, DELIVERING TO MY NEIGHBOUR 5 DOORS UP!!!!!!!!! Then they !!!!!!ed off!! I think thats what made me the most annoyed, that and the lack of courtesy from them, a simple call to tell me would have made it not so bad!
Anyone use sainsburys? they any good?
  • i like sainsburys, have started to use them more than tesco or asda. they havent been late yet and ive been using them sporadicly for 8 months now. tesco and asda have been on time, but with things missing that ive then had to go out and get which was teh whole point of an online shop.

ive used tescos and sainsburys, only thing i can say is dont buy any eggs from online, the people instore dont seem to know how to pack bags properly.

got some stuff from sainsburys about 12 months ago and all my bread was packed with dettol/detox, it leaked and soaked my bread making it unedible, they replaced it but i havent used them since, as i dont think they can be trusted to pack bags properly.

I am sitting here waiting for my 10 o'clock Sainsbury delivery. I have found them extremely good - I could almost start a fan club.

I think it does depend a great deal on the local delivery depot. My Sainsbury order comes from the White Rose Sainsbury in Leeds, I don't know whether they are the same for you? I have found Tesco appalling here, but I know my darling uncle in Wales has had no problems.

With Sainsbury they have a one hour delivery slot and you automatically get a £10 voucher if they are late. I have had no problems with the items delivered, though I am very strictly 'no substitutions' so I cannot get strange surprises.

Last delivery (I think, or last but one) one of the boxes of eggs had one egg broken. I was refunded the cost of the box of eggs, but the driver left the box with me, so that I could use the remaining five. I did not ask him to do this, but the drivers are (with one or two exceptions  ) are lovely.

However I have heard that Sainsbury deliveries elsewhere are not quite as good.

  • we usually go for asda because its a buttload cheaper than the rest. we've ordered loyally every week for a long long time and you wouldve thought they value their loyal customers, but no, this is the second time they've messed up our delivery. first time round, the guy turned up two hours late without even a phonecall to tell us what was happening, when ringing the customer services place, the guy was as grumpy as useless as hell! never recieved a delivery refund as demanded, not even an apology for our troubles! this time round, the guy turned up late (again), didnt give us our delivery note and got a ton of stuff wrong/missing. upon ringing customer services for a second time to ask where the delivery note is the guy said he would get back to us but never did. we had to ring up again the day after and still no luck. we've wasted hours of our time and money waiting around for asda, with no apology.

But the neighbour could have booked a slot an hour and a half before you, you do know asda have more than 1 van and the routes overlap?
