Help my computers crashed " StartRep.exe" message

Hi, I think the main reason is because I have been turning it off at the power so often rather than shutting down every time. It keeps saying it's repairing itself but when you click on something on desktop it freezes and says the security (options or programmes) something like that, didn't load. It's going round and round in circles and so am I!
Any help?
I have 2 hard disk drives acer intel computer windows Vista.
Thanks

ps very naughty just powering down the PC!!0 -
Why would you switch it off at the socket/wall instead of shutting it down?0

I'd download some free spyware utilities such as:
Spybot search and Destroy
SpywareBlaster
Hijack This
Download those, learn to update them and immunize the comp against spy / malware, then use Hijackthis, scan and it'll load up a website that tells you what shouldnt be starting up with your comp.0 -
Sounds like you have errors in your registry, try downloading this:
http://www.glarysoft.com/rr.html
Usually fixes probs caused by missing dll's etc.;)I must, I must, get my post average up to 1 a day!!

If I can get it to actually go onto the internet I'll try that thank you. The furthest I've got so far is the desktop screen and it just freezes whenever I try to click on something.
As for the question about turning it off at the wall rather than shutting it down, which is really helpful by the way, it's quicker than shutting it down. I was being lazy.0 -
Try rebooting the computer using windows repair, as you press the on/off button on your PC just before windows starts press the F8 key a few times rapidly, then a menu will come up with a list of options, go on to "start Windows in safe mode" click enter & see if your computer starts then. If that doesn't work repeat the process but instead of going down to start windows in safe mode go down to "safe mode with a command prompt" click on enable boot logging. If that doesn't work then then try again as you have just turned your PC on press the F8 key and go down to"last known good configuration" press enter on this and hopefully your PC will restore itself to when it worked properly before your problems. If you do get it going. put some good Anti virus like AVG 8.5 and also get that registry repairer and use that to clean up your PC.Melissa22_Mum wrote: »If I can get it to actually go onto the internet I'll try that thank you. If you are that ignorant about computers who knows what you've done to it. I worked in IT support and without meaning to cause too much offence, people like you who always switch off at the wall, are just the type to have !!!!ed everything else up. Its never just the one thing you've done - never just the one problem. Best to reformat and start again.0 -

When you tell it to shutdown you can walk away and leave it to do it's thing....
And before you say what I know your going to say! PC power supplies are designed to be left connected to the mains power on a permanent basis. Switching it off has numerous undesirable effects. Your going to run down the CMOS battery for a start and your increasing the risk of the power supply going up in smoke.
In the electronics world, we carry out failure testing by putting a part through 10 years of operation in a space of 24 or 48 hours, this is done using on/off power cycling and temperature/humidity simulation machines.
So what your actually doing is drastically decreasing your PC's life expectancy.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Unfortunately being lazy may have corrupted your OS. It will also greatly shorten the life of your hard drive, as the heads will be liable to crash rather than park properly.
PS: if you ever have to shut down without using the Start button (i.e. if the system has crashed), then use the Power button on the case. Holding it down for a few seconds will induce a shutdown. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks you slow saver. I'll try that, it's actually helpful! I came on here for help believe it or not, as usual you get flogged to death by people wanting to tell you off.
Anyway, thanks to people who actually want to help me to try and fix the problem, I'll probably go some where else if this doesn't work.0
