Lunchtime plan to save money at work - lets see how much we can all save in a month!

I recently paid 47 pence for a standard sized Snickers bar in the local garage, and last week bought two packs of 5 bars for £2 at Morrisons. So, if you are a chocolate eater buy it in multipacks and allow yourself to take one a day to work. I put one of the packs in the freezer, and the other in the fridge to stop me from scoffing them while watching the telly, and they take longer to eat when they come out of the fridge hardened, so you are less likely to eat more than one! I've been doing HM lunches for several months now, but DS was still having school dinners at £7.50 a week, so after Easter I moved him onto packed lunches - saving £30 a month alone!
For snacks, I keep a bag of nuts and another of raisins. If I'm having leftover quiche, I'll mix some nuts, raisins and celery in mayo to go with it, plus other salad stuff.
I've also started home-baking more. Just made cheese biscuits for us - same as cheese straws, but I've got Gran's old steel cutters in some fab shapes - teddy, duck, dog, rabbit, etc.
Planning on making the not-so-healthy jam tarts and choc muffins next!Back on the DFW Wagon:

CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/180 -

Some great new lunch time ideas here, I particularly like the one about putting chocolate bars in the freezer as my downfall can be buying the double bars of Galaxy so I'll try putting one in the freezer for later, much later

and I am going to try making the cheese biscuits later as they sound pretty scrummy!0 -
Great thread. I usually take HM lunches but then go for a 'walk' to get out of office for bit and usually end up in the shops! New Look always have a sale on don't they?!!! Anyway liked the idea of going to the library instead. i live on the coast so could go for walk on the beach instead - not so great in the winter though!!And i'll have to resist the ice cream and doughnuts!!Official DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'

Love the thread - I started following the HM lunch plan last month and must have saved £100 over five weeks. I cook extra of all my evening meals (curry, sausages, casseroles etc) and box up portions to be nuked at work. Sarnies when I forget to defrost something, bags of apples, nuts, multipack crisps etc.... Can't believe the difference in the bank balance!
Definitely check out the oldstyle board - I got loads of ideas from there! Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I love the nuts idea, but when I tried it last time I ate a 99p bag of cashew nuts in one day. I also like brazils. Is there a cheap source of nuts? Or am I just eating too many?0

Nuts are MUCH MUCH cheaper if you buy them in Indian shops - the wholesale sort are best where they sell enormous packets of everything and you realise that when you buy Indian spices in the supermarket you are paying about 10 times what they cost in these shops!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0
