Lunchtime plan to save money at work - lets see how much we can all save in a month!

I've been bringing lunches in for as long as I can remember, it no longer feels like a chore.!
On the odd days where I do buy lunch, it pains me to hand over a couple of £££ - I couldnt imagine doing it every day. It's such a waste of ££££!!
Although I work near the shops (Oxford Circus) and do wander around them at lunch, I am not tempted to buy anything (hows that for willpower!!) but everything is SOOOOOOOOOO expensive. So the things I do like I can't justify buying anyway!!
Wish I had the same willpower when it come to food :0)

What a genius plan- never thought of that before!! :T:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Comes from having lived in Italy for 3 years a while ago. Means you don't have to lug iceblocks around when the foods all gone.lynzpower wrote:What a genius plan- never thought of that before!! :TWhen it comes to thought, some people stop at nothing.........0 -
This is a great thread. I made sandwiches this morning (after I'd taken the kids to school) and then promptly left them behind. I can't bear the thought of paying £2 or more for a manky sandwich from the supermarket, so I'm going to starve until I get home (at about 2pm) and have it then!! That's how 'tight' I've become.£2 Saver Club (started 24th March '06) going towards No. 2 Son Cub trip!!

I bought a slow cooker (thanks to a forum tip for a cheap one from LX Direct) and on a Sunday I make a big batch of veggie chilli in it and then freeze into individual portions to take to work and reheat in the micro.
It is lovely and healthy and easy! The Best Things in Life Are Free0 -
I took my sandwiches to work today with fruit and yoghurt and for the first time in months I didn't go out and buy crisps and a bottle of coke0

Since the first of April i have saved £48 by taking a packed lunch into work.
I used to spend around £4 everyday on lunch and this month i've only spent £6.29!
Have picked up a few good ideas from this thread, thanks all
and am looking forward to a variation on 'cheese' sandwiches. The frozen water idea is brilliant as i don't have acces to a fridge and i got a thermos lunch bag for my birthday last year. So i'm all set up for gourmet lunches next week! Official DFW Nerd Club member no. 019

Apologies if already mentioned, but how about peoples ideas and recipes for packed lunches/sandwiches etc.
I know I always struggle to think of something different and end up taking the same old thing to work. I work shifts so somedays it's something for breakfast and other days something for lunch/afternoons.0 -
Carrot and cucumber sticks and pitta cut into fingers.....yummy dipped into humous and healthy. Travels well and doesnt go soggy!0

What a great thread!
I always take a packed lunch with me to school (I'm a teacher) as the food on offer for the children is so vile. So that's that bit sorted.
However, I'm a devil for "just popping into Asda" on the way home to pick up something or other that I don't actually need. From now on I'll not take my purse with me, other than when I owe my tea money, and I'll make sure that I top up with petrol ONLY at the weekend........................
Fingers crossed!
