Brilliant, a few new ones there:D0 -
Whats the book like for veggies. MY flatmate is vegetarian and i'd prob end up eating the same meal for an entire week if I cooked it with meat or fish...
also - I have been wanting to buy the first Gill Holcombe for ages.. keep looking at it in the library and checking it out on my ticket etc but there are 40 pages totally wasted with baking and puddings which is a big portion of the book. (I'd say about a third of the book)I dont have a sweet tooth and it is only me with no mates, family or guests so all the dessert bits of any cookbook are kinda wasted here.
Whats the proportion of baking and puds? The tv shows seem to be so far very heavily on the cakes and desserts which I'd never have any use for. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Thanks rosieben for looking up the listing in Radio Times :T
Much as I like athletics, I was hoping it was a mistake in my listings mag and that Economy Gastronomy was on again this week! We have to wait 10 whole days to watch the next prog now :eek:0 -

My son has just made the chocolate cookies minus the nuts with extra white choccy as that what is what we had in the house. They smell like Millies Cookies and are lovely and gooey. My four kids are just waiting for them to cool. There wont be any left soon!!I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I've got the book and imo it is fantastic. There's a couple of recipes I probably won't be trying - the beef daube one springs to mind as I can't justify spending that much on beef...and knowing my lot they'll eat most of it in one sitting...:p
But I will be trying loads of the others out.
For me the best part of the book was the positive spin on using up left overs - something that I still need to work on a bit - and on cooking double the amount to freeze and use later (again, an area that needs some work). There isn't a huge section on puddings, but enough to keep you going I guess. (My advice there would be to buy Bake by Rachel Allen - imo another fab book!). If I were veggie I think I'd feel a bit hard done by as a lot of the recipes are meat/fish based.
I think it's currently £9 on Amazon, not bad for a £20 book....
