I succumbed, like thriftlady. I said I wouldn`t be watching the programmes and wouldn`t be buying the book but the book is on its way and I love the programmes.

I'm thinking the book must have loads in it for them to be able to put so many online.
Hmmmmm tempted to buy it now lol.

Now this might sound strange, but after much thought over the last month this show has finally helped me to make my decision to 'raise' my shopping budget!! I can't bring myself to eat junk...and by that I mean the cheapest sausages/tuna/tea etc... we want to eat good quality food and this show has impressed me with some of it's recipes......although I aim to adapt them into cheaper alternatives;)

Maybe the solution Mel is to decide on your priorities for cheap and for nice foods. I have never drunk cheap tea because I can really tell the difference, and priorities for me are eating 'welfare' chicken and getting a veg box delivered for example. However there are other ingredients that do not need to be expensive e.g. value tinned tomatoes, kidney beans, flour etc. Sometimes cheaper cuts of meat that are nicer after a long slow cook than the more expensive ones.

I'm sure you already meal plan, use leftovers etc so you know you won't be wasting anything which is the important thing! If anyone saw the inside of my cupboards they would be very confused as the contents range from Aldi and value ranges to Finest and organic depending on whether I can tell there is a difference or not!:D

To those who bought the book do we reckon amazon is the cheapest?

What would be a better idea for a programme would be to get some of the great little money-streeeetchers on this site to do a pilot to show folk how it really is easy and cheap to cook from scratch.
With all these 'posh' cooks telling folk how to save money there never seems to be an 'ordinary person ' cooking. I'm sure there are some brilliant folk on here who could knock spots off the 'so-called experts'

absolutely - people have been feeding their families 'from scratch' for years - don't need chefs to show how. plus i wouldn't following eating advice from someone overweight.

I just bought the book too, the recipe books I have (3) are rubbish, so I tend to stick to what I know and have no imagination. The recipes on the show so far, are things we would eat, so fingers crossed it's full of yummy recipes!

Clearly, the fact that this very board exists shows that some people do need a little advice regarding the basics. Very strange thing to say, that.......

Suppose it's a fair point, though, to say you'd not take eating advice from someone who had a weight problem. After all, if this post of yours is anything to go by I'd be reluctant to take punctuation or grammar advice from you :)
Oh come on, don't be silly.

This is a cooking show not a weight loss show.

I expect Allegra, like me, eats too much of her own cooking. That doesn't mean she doesn't know what makes a healthy diet. Nor does it make any advice she gives on the subject invalid.
