Did you see how much sugar goes in ?
You'll never get in your bikini again.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

On the programme this recipe was not aimed at the kids, but seemed to be a treat for the adults. I like to treat me and OH (we don't have kids and we are on a budget, but not as extreme as some OS it seems) to a good meal every now and again, and not worry about getting 6 more portions from the roast chicken (which I love making it make 4 meals, it is just not my entire reason for living;))
I shop at butchers, buy organic veg-and eggs, chicken, pork etc-have been to intensive farms-I hated walking down a row of cages with 5 chickens in each etc, and made the decision then, as a poor student to go free range or without-but that is my decision-I would never judge others on theirs! (except maybe vegetarians who don't eat meat on "moral ground" but who happily eat battery eggs! pet peeve!!!)
I cook from scratch because I don't like salty ready meals-I used to love m&s but more recently have found them salty etc. I don't live on £100 per month for 2 of us, I try to keep it down, but if we fancy a treat, or if its a special occasion, we'll spend more!
Its been said most people are OS because they have to be because of ££ but I really don't think that is case for the majority of people on here, but I could be wrong
I think its fine too.
I'm spending about £110 to £120 PW on three adults, but eating well, no junk or convience.
You could easily spend £20 on a crappy take-away for 4 & get oil, fat & rubbish for your money, now that is waste:money:0 -
Totally agree spendaholic, I am looking forward to this but I hope it is real cheap and cheerful food not "they spent 250 a week on food lets show them how to do it for 150"
I just watched the second one & they spent over £300 pw:eek::eek::eek::eek:
I was amazed they only started to cut it down to £220 (or something).
I would have expected them to at least halve it.0 -

I hate the fact that they go to the most expensive shops and use recipes that most ordinary folk would probably not like.
Butternut Squash Yuerk!
I love butternut squash:p
Butternut squash risotto is lovely:D0 -
Quick question about i-player. Can you just watch the last five/ten minutes of a programme?
I missed the ending.
Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0 -
Tuned in last night and was really disappointed
They were not your average family on an average budget ,no fair
Hope as the show goes on they show more paupers like us:rotfl:
Did anyone spot the use of ready roll pastry ?!?!?!!?:eek:0 -

I loved last nights programme and noticed that DH and DS2 (15) both hung around to watch it this week.
Think DS2 began to realise how tough it is for parents when the kids won't even try a new food.
He actually ate the Macaroni cheese with artichokes and bacon last night from last weeks programme.
Ashamed to admit I didn't eat all mine - IMHO not as nice as MrBadexample's mac cheese recipe so I'm sticking with his in future. We all love that one!
We've all ear-marked the brownie cookies for this weeks attempt - only I'm substituting the macodamia nuts (love those but too dear) for hazlenuts from Aldi and their 89p blocks of choc. DS2 will be making -just doesn't know it yet.

The football was on terrestrial AND freeview.
They did seem like a nice family and it was good that they all got involved in cooking the food.
Hubby watched it with me and apart from making comments that I think all of us here were makingsaid he didn't think the beef with the pasta would go very well, but he liked the look of the chicken biriani and the mussels and asked me if I was taking notes!
Next weeks one looks horrendous! :eek:0 -
