I think that it would be easy for a family to overspend on a monthly food budget. I have no idea how much we spend - but in September I'm going to try to keep it down to 300 pounds - there are 5 of us. Mainly as I don't like the idea of having to throw food away. Have got the book - will have to re read. Also - looked at how much it cost us to get to our local Tesco (my preferred supermarket) and as long as we get the shopping delivered at the cheapest time, it is cheaper for us to stay at home and get it delivered! Result!!!
thats 75 a week. we are £120 a week for a family of six no pets. could certainly get it lower with good meal planning, using up everything and making the majority of the foods we eat. i do prepare all our meals bar a nice chinese curry sauce from the local shop which is 99p for two sachets. sometimes its best to give yourself the bigger budget that you can afford then cutting it down each week instead of going to the very tight end of your budget.
whatever way you go about it i do hope you are very successful! good luck!0 -

Kids loved the cottage pie so much that instead of making the rest into a chilli and a spag bol as per the book I froze half of what was left, and threw more veg and stock into the rest to make a sort of mince stew. Served it with some home made shortcrust pastry and roasties mmmmmmmmmm.

Sorry, but thats great as I missed it last week. Some of the recipes in the book are great, but others I know won't work with my children. So whatever works for them I'm making in bulk!!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
