glad its not just me , if I say so myself I'm pretty good at making cakes and biscuits but these got thrown away ( bad I know but they were inedible ) watched the programme back again and his mixture looked a lot thicker than mine so not sure what went wrong
annoyed really as they looked lovely
I too added extra flour but they were still one big horrible mess

just a thought but did you omit any of the ingredients such as the nuts, chocolate? if thats been cut down then its possible that there wasnt enough of the bulky items to soak the liquid up? just a thought. going to make them myself later but with no nuts and definately no white chocolate but i will bump up the dark chocolate amounts.
  • I am so glad its not just me. I pride myself as being a good cake/biscuit maker but had no luck with these, the mixture was not thick. I made it in one big tray but it wasnt right:confused:

    Bl00dy hell:money::money::money::money::money::money::money:

I never see deals like that:rolleyes:
    Well done you:T

I bought Economy Gastronomy the book in Tesco for £10 last night:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j

Even if you think you have downloaded & printed lots of recipes from the web, its still worth buying the book as there are loads more:D

I've put page markers on the ones I want to try

    Red Pepper Hummus
Pappadelle with Slow-Cooked Beef & mushrooms
Arroz Con Pollo (chicken & rice)
    Pauls Cottage Pie
Pork & Ginger Noodle Stir-Fry, but with chicken instead.
Quick Spiced Chicken thighs (but will use breast instead) with Emergency Biryani
Onion Bhajis, Tarka Dhal & Almond Rice
    Norwegian Fish Pie
    Spicy Lamb Shish Kebab
Seared Squid with Chorizo (this is also nice with scallops instead of squid;))
    Turkey & chickpea Patties
    Spicy Chicken Bhuna Salad
    Butternut Tagine

Keep me busy for a while:D:D:D

What's everybody else planning to make first?

Well, I bought 2 bags of parsnips in Tesco last night for 20p, so on the stove just now is a big pan of parsnip, apple and ginger soup that will do us for lunch today with a sandwich and then there will be enough to do our lunches for a few days next week :)

Not bad for about 50p all in!

I don't like the nuts but doubled up the amount of white chocolate
they looked so nice on the tv but I knew as soon as I saw the mixture they were not going to be right , I can't tell you how awful they were just think of one big runny mess that just didn't cook and you'll get an idea , I added extra flour to the mixture left in the bowl and tried again and they were still awful so I threw the rest of the mixture away which is soooooooooooo unlike me as I just can't bear wasting food

same here I can make cakes and biscuits no problems and all my friends love them but these ones just didn't work

We had pasta e fagioli (?sp) (from the book) for lunch today with HM foccacia. Yummy! There's still half a saucepan left, so guess what's for lunch tomorrow!! Although I wonder whether it would freeze? Might give that a try.

The only thing I think I'd change is the amount of oil used - left a slight 'slick' on the top, but other than that I'd definitely do it again.
