Attempt to recycle phone has become a headache ...

Hi all,

I sent my mobile phone (in perfect working order - just no longer needed due to an upgrade) to Envirofone for recycling. Received an automated email saying the phone was faulty and they were now only prepared to offer me a third of the original offer. I guess it's possible that the phone was damaged in transit but I was a bit suspicious so chose the option to have the phone returned rather than accept the lower offer.

I had an automated email back saying the phone would be returned to me within 14 days by recorded delivery. Three weeks have passed and it hasn't been returned. So now they still have my phone and haven't paid me a penny for it :mad: I've emailed and had no response. A friend suggested writing to them stating I will involve the police if they don't return the phone as their actions amount to theft - is this a bit strong though?

Should have just shoved the phone in a drawer, in hindsight :rotfl:

did you write done the ime number before you sent it

just encase they send you a different phone back

well the cheeky bluggers eh.. phone up and kick of a stink, if that fails write them a letter and if that fails go to consumer advice x

Brilliant, thanks everyone - I don't call 0870 numbers being a money saver so the local number is a great find

I've kept the original box with the IMEI number on the side so if the phone ever does come back, the first thing I'll be checking is that the numbers match - funnily enough that's crossed my mind too. I know it could have been bashed by Royal Mail but I packed it well and it honestly worked perfectly when I sent it off :mad:

Envirofone are the most established recycler around.. and are a decent sized company, I am sure they will not trying it on.. I would make sure they get a daily call though.

Thanks, that's good to know - I was wondering whether I'd been a real mug for trusting them but I have to say I've seen good reviews for them so hopefully this is a one-off
