rightmoveRightmove and agents own websites for the couple in my area that don't use rightmove.
It's easier on the trees that way.0 -
rightmoveNow then confused31 this poll has arisen because you were plucking figures out of the air, on another thread, about the % of folks that used rightmove.
So do you really think this poll is going to be the credible proof source to quote for evermore? Asking people who clearly already use the internet is hardly a good basis for running the poll.
well you use the internet and still use traditional estate agents more, and you can tell that by the way you voted, why dont you go down your local high street and ask the people there, come back later and tell us your findings.I am not a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as not being a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. rightmovehttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3121950.stm
heres some statistics from the bbc from 2003, 59% of people regulary used the internet, i dont know what it would be now, but im sure it would have gone up a few percent as its now 2009.I am not a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as not being a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. local estate agents websites or their windowsIf you read the comments on here they give a different picture than the actual poll results
Of course most people use Rightmove, I think that goes without saying. What a lot of us are saying is that it isn't enough on its own, as you'd potenially miss out on a large portion of interesting properties if you were ONLY using RM. Therefore I think this poll is completely pointless (at least if its intention is to be used as ammunition in the argument whether EAs are worth their fees or not).

local estate agents websites or their windowsI found when I was house hunting 2 years ago that most of the properties I was interested in on Rightmove were already sold or under offer. So I just registered with every agent in the area, which brought better results as most would ring me as soon as a property they thought I'd be interested in came in on their books. This way I got to see the property before it even made the rightmove site. I used to check the agents websites practically everyday too in case I'd missed something.
Some agents would even let you know when they had been to value a house but hadn't yet received instruction that there was a possibility of that house coming onto the market.
My own house sold without being advertised for sale when the ea contacted people on their books who were interested in buying a house similar to the one I was selling. I instructed ea one day & a viewer came that evening & an asking price offer was made first thing next morning. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
There is a very good estate agent locally who does not use rightmove. They still have a third of the houses I would be interested in buying on their books, so I always check out their website separately as well as rightmove. That said, even though they are really good, I wonder would I use them or an agent that used rightmove if I was selling...0

Yes this happens and is a very good point. A poster in another thread questioned why had something gone on rightmove and was marked under offer straight away. For exactly the reasons you state.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. rightmoveI use Globrix - so neither of your options suit me.
I've just looked at Globrix, I have forund it to be totally out of date and has a fraction of the properties from our area that RM has. Definately has the thumbs down from me. (Including the listing of a house for sale that sold, as in completed 3 months ago!!)I use rightmove!! 95% of our local agents advertise on there.
100% of our local agents us RM.
No competition really!I love giving home made gifts, which one of my children would you like?:A
