I've received my letter from SF!

Well, i pretty much got what i'd hoped for - full maintenance grant, and 75% maintenance loan (i thought i'd get the full 100%, but apparently if i get full maintenance grant, i get 25% deducted from Maintenance loan - all very confusing!).

Anyway, i'm happy with that and i've been happy with Student Finance. they took about 8 weeks all in all- as to be expected because of the extra influx of applications due to the recession and people returning to Higher Education. I think it's out of order to slander Student finance when backlogs are to be expected...cut 'em a bit of slack i say! I knew my application would take 8 weeks to process, so dont understand why loads of people moan with the delay - you have to be patient!

Good good. Mine was done a lot quicker than that but I didn't apply for assessment.

And yes, for every £1 of grant you get, you get X taken away from loan. You still get more overall and you don't have to pay back a lot of it.

I got mine but knew it would be fairly quick because I wasn't being income assessed. Despite this they still sent me the letters to claim my tuition fees and a maintenance loan. Which was nice (fast show style).

think part of the frustration is they seem to chase "missing" info, when its been sitting on their desks for weeks already ... but won't confirm if its been rec'd or not

Am glad you've got your letter and are happy with what you've been awarded, gives me hope that I might hear something soon!

I myself have had a moan about Student Finance, I completely appreciate that they have a hell of a lot of work to do though. It's been well over 8 weeks since I applied and SFE have been asking for more information from me in dribs and drabs, for instance just this week they have asked me to send in my marriage certificate even though I send this when I originally sent my passport. Also if I hadn't logged in to check on the status of my application I wouldn't have known that they wanted it.

Like I say I understand that they have a huge amount of stuff to get through but it's hard not to worry about giving up work to go to uni and relying on finance when you don't know when you're going to get it or how much, and worrying about paying the fees for the nursery.

Wishing you the best success for your time at uni and beyond!

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

I spoke to SF today and they said it takes 8 weeks to process. Seems the norm and I'm not going to stress whether it takes 8 weeks or 20! I've known I was on the road to going to Uni at some point and I've put aside a little to tide me over if there are delays.

I've just posted a new thread as I only have been offered a basic maintenance loan, no maintenance grant. Is it too late to apply for a grant?

not at all, you need to have a financial assessment based on parental or partner income. Your sponsor(s) will need to complete the form PFF1 from the direct.gov website.

Hi again, I'll go have a look now, but what if I don't have a sponsor or partner?
  • It takes 8 weeks in England to get your award notice? wow
In Scotland they say it takes up to 28days at the most. The past 2 years i've had my award letter within 2 weeks of filling in my online application
