Why is it that when you want to downgrade you have to telephone Sky, yet you can upgrade your package online? Or have I missed something?

personally i wouldnt downgrade on line, if you do it over the phone they will give you incentives not to.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
They make it more difficult to downgrade online because they are a business and want money. It makes sense. I dont mind ringing them because it is usually a painless process.0

It is painless on line at no cost and even better if you do not wish to be sold anything on a call that you are paying through the nose for.0

I don't believe you can downgrade on-line any more. I have recently tried all all of the ideas in this thread to no avail. For example, I tried the procedure Geriatric refers to but it is no longer available. I then tried the option of sending my downgrade request by e-mail but they did not bother to reply to it. I was therefore forced to dial their 08442 number (another Sky ripoff) in order to complete my request. I was naturally kept waiting on this number for some time at my cost, then had to go through all the pre recorded options but eventually did get through to an "advisor" to "discuss" my requirements. I was also told by this advisor that it takes 31 days to downgrade any element of your package.
It is so annoying that you can upgrade on-line with immediate effect but cannot downgrade on-line. It is obviously deliberate Sky policy to make money from the 08442 number/31 day cancellation policy/and to then get their trained "advisor" to hassle you before you can reduce your package costs in any way.
I do have a love/hate relationship with Sky as I love my sport and there is no real alternative to their services for me as our neighborhood does not have cable.
Bottom line is that successive governments have allowed Sky to become too dominant and they abuse their position.

I too am going round in circles with Sky. Having received the recent moneysavingexpert newsletter about downgrading sports before the World cup started, I called Sky and cancelled Sport and Movies. I was told that the monthly bill would drop from 58 to 24 pounds but only after 31 days. I can't remember the date I called (early June maybe), but this week I saw that I was still being charged 58 pounds. When I called Sky on 23/8 they said that no such call had been received by them and that the notice period would start from 23/8 only. They said also that it is not possible to downgrade online.
They said that "Every time you call into Sky there is an imprint listed on your account to state the date and time you called. Any advisor you speak to upon calling Sky also has their ID imprinted onto your account"
So, unless I make a specific effort to record and make a note of the date and time of my telephone conversations with them I can't get them to admit that they ever received a call from me. Did anyone else have a similar proble over the past couple of months?0 -
I called them to downgrade and got offered 20% off for 6 months, called them 6 months later and downgraded no offer.
Saving £29 a month, no movies, no football, no music and no lifestyle channels.
I'll watch any football online via my Sky broadband0
