Thank you so much for your help. I think the problem was that I changed internet provider quite a long time ago.
I logged into paypal using my old email address and password - and the payment is there! I presume i can transfer this payment to my bank account without too much difficulty?
I'm not quite sure how to update everything so that payments go to the paypal account that is linked to my ebay account though...

Argh! I've been able to transfer the funds in the paypal account linked with my old email address, but now when I go to log in to paypal with my current address (which is linked with my ebay account), it says 'The Transaction ID in your link is invalid' - but it still lets me log in to this acount..? I'm even more confused. I suppose I'll have to wait until I sell another item and see where the paypal payment goes!0
