Don't forget to drill pilot holes first! I've got Bosch and Stanley drill bits and they're fine for general DIY.:beer:0

What size drill bit for a pilot hole??0 -
Having used many many drill bits over the years, I'd say spend a bit more on a decent brand. Most DIY stores sell a pack of, say, 40 assorted bits for £20. In my experience they don't last very long, and for most normal DIY jobs you'll find you actually only use a few of the sizes. So buy a smaller set - or even individual bits - of the sizes you'll actually use, from a decent brand. Later on, if you find you need a particular size that you don't have, go and buy a single bit on the basis that you'll probably need it again. If you buy a decent one, it'll last for years in normal DIY use. That's my tuppence-worth, anyway :-)0

An abused B&D Piranha masonry drill bit (used sideways to cut through blockwork!) - make up your own mind though to be fair it does still actually work!0

Just make sure that any pilot drill is no larger than the smaller diameter of the screw thread. These modern parallel thread screws will make their own hole if they have to. But it is infinitely easier if you use a pilot drill or a bradawl first.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
