Card advice

Hi all,

I'm 21, living at home with the folks with a regular monthly income, on the electoral roll, have no overdraft/outstanding loans/existing cards etc and am currently trying to apply for the best credit card available to me.

After briefly trying to apply online for the Tesco Clubcard credit card it appears that I'm not eligible for some reason (am guessing it's because I have a non existant credit rating!) so am at a bit of a loss as to which path to take now.

Could anyone with similar experience shed some light on what to try next? Or am I stuck in going for any old card company that'll have me and having to build up my rating?

Thanks!

Liam

If you don't have much of a credit history, you would be best getting a credit builder card from the likes of Capital One, Vaquis, Aqua etc.

If you apply for loads of mainstream cards and are rejected, you'll end up with searches on your credit file which could put lenders off.

By getting a credit builder card, and ensuring its paid off in full every month, you will build up your file and then in the future, the mainstream cards won't be as quick to say no! Just make sure you pay off in ful though, as the APRs are not great!

Who'd you bank with? I assume you have a bank account for your wages, in which case you could try popping along to your bank.
