Buying my first 'family' car

The Audi might have the badge and arguably better interior / exterior styling, but so long as it's not a V8 or higher grade engine you are lokoing for the Skoda Superb is essentially the same for lower cost and lower running costs.
Servicing and repairs at main dealers is very expensive, more so than BMW and I've never driven an Audi (and I've driven a few) thats any fun to drive. Numb steering, FWD understeer, lack of traction.
Cars like the Mondeo and Mazda 6 are much more intersting to drive.
I'd spend my £10K on a Mazda 6 because a Superb is not that entertainig to drive and I like a bit of involvment in the drive. If it's limo comfort you are after the Superb wins it.
I'm sure there is a saloon Octavia available too, another one to try that is a bit mroe fun to drive based on the VW Golf chassis.0 -
thanks all for your fantastic responses!
i'm actually swaying more to the superb/octavia side. My uncle has had an octavia for about 8 years and not had a single problem with it. But then looks-wise the Audi A4 is more desirable.
Good shout about the taxi drivers love affair with the superb/octavia. Personally id say the superb is too big and the octavia is a better size.0 -
You specified a saloon, said you were looking at A4/A6, then say that a Superb (A4 size) is too big and an Octavia (hatchback, Golf chassis) is ideal? If you have changed your mind to this way of thinking and want a car more this size, you may want to look at another VW group car, the Bora, the saloon version of the Golf. But if you really want to play the depreciation game with a saloon, buy a Mondeo, Vectra or 407.0

The Chrysler 300C deezel would be my choice. Based around some mercedes, cheap for amount of car you get and look pretty mean.

Between £8k and £10k for a 3 year old car (30k new!)0 -

I need your money saving advice please
I have a small family and im looking purchasing a saloon car. Im not interested in a small hatchback as I have had them in the past and would
really like a saloon or similar.
My budget is around £8k but I would go up to £10k max. I have been considering an Audi A4 o A6. The reviews for second hand Audi A4 and A6 have been good on whatcar
I have found some reasonably prices Audis on carmony
Does anyone have a second hand A4 or A6? How are they to drive, maintain, running costs etc? Do you have suggestions to alternatives in that range?
I've also been looking for cheap car loans or 0% introductory offers. If anyone has seen anything please do let me know
Thanks
SB
i should think you couldn'y go wrong with a VW Passat or VW Touran
i've had both with my family, and found them both practical and a joy to drivePlease take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk

ive got a toyota avensis and will have another when it evenutally gives up the ghost. not got a family yet, but will be ideal as the boot space is huge and can fit 3 adults comfortably in the back. we get good milage out of it and can do aberdeen to durham on half a tank of diesel and glasgow to durham on quarter of a tank. i dont do much town driving which is why i get a better milage out of it. my average milage is around 49mpg and on the motorway get up to around 64mpg.Debt free 3 years early :j
Savings for house deposit - very healthy
Cash back earnt so far £14.570 -

We have a 12 year old A4 estate which we've had for 6 years and a 3 year old A3 sport which I've had for a year
Totally love both cars (esp MY A3
) and would highly recommend either of them 0
