DS screen un-responsive

Looking to pick your techie brains here, please!:D

My daughter's DS lite is seven months old now & has just started playing up!

The screen is mainly un-responsive to the stylus & we have tried different ones but still no joy.

The only time it does respond is when you touch the stylus to the screen to select something, you have to put the stylus in the general area of the object you want to select rather than directly on the object itself.

Have cleaned the screen & tried different games, but still having issues.

The screen isn't scratched so what could it be?

Is it fixable?

Please help!

    have you tried recalibrating?

start up without a cart and select the little icon at the bottom of the screen (bit like a small ds)
Click on the "crosshair" icon to recalibrate
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

I've tried this several times-still no joy.:(

    Anymore ideas?:)
  • Hi, have you checked around the edge of the screen that there are no foreign wedged between the screen and surround which will effect the results you get. Also, are you sure you are confirming after you recalibrate because I had a lot of problems getting the calibration to confirm.

    Thanks for answering my query.:)

I checked all around the edge of the screen today & I couldn't see any debris although there is quite a bit of play in certain areas-not sure if that's normal.

How do you confirm calibration? Touched the 'x' with the stylus & chased it around the screen for quite a while. Didn't see any way to confirm, it just said press B to cancel.

Then it's definitely broken. On a working DS it automatically confirms itself once you've pressed all the Xs. On one where the touch screen is too messed up it will keep repeating asking you until either you cancel or deliberately press the place it wants you to (which will probably be away from the Xs)

My brother's DS had the same problem, Nintendo fixed it under warranty, although I would recommend going to the retailer.

Oh dear! Much as I expected but not what I wanted to hear!

Bought it from WH Smith last December. Given how long it's been I'm doubting they'll do anything about it.

codestorm are the Nintendo UK repairer (warranty or chargeable):

    Email

    NintendoServiceCentre@codestorm.co.uk

To raise a repair if in warranty, or to ask a price for repair.

Surely if its less than 12 months old there shouldn't be any problems getting it repaired under warranty.

Not with Nintendo direct, no, but would WH Smiths be prepared to do anything about it, assuming I can find the receipt, if I took it back to the shop?
