AOL Unlimited 1mb Contract free £14.99 for those migrating

Its not widely publicised but if you already have a router(modem) and are migrating from another provider then AOL do not make you sign a years contract when joining them.

They state that they are truly unlimited and I think their initial price of £14.99 a month for a 1mb connection is pretty competitive (reverts to £17.99 after 6 mths), you also get the first month for free.

I did confirm prior to joining that there would be no contract whatsoever !!!

Good option for some.

I am with AOL Gold. 19.99 per month.

I must admit Aol has a very good service level. no hassle when you call them, also the on-line help facility is v.good. And you can honestly say that they do offer unlimited.

I have nearly cancelled on two occasions due to seeing better offers, AOL always seem to offer a bit more. I was also paying for unlimited phone calls at 9.99 per month, this was reduced to 7.99 as a good will gesture.

If you go through https://www.quidco.com you can this month (April 2006) get a £40 cashback as well as the one month free if you migrate.

Since gold is £19.99 this equates to three months free broadband.

I believe they sign you up on Platinuim for your free month so you get unlimitted downloads for the first month and then you can go down to gold or silver.

Not a bad deal with if you have your own equipment just a monthly contract.

Free broadband while you wait to see what happens next in the broadband market.

im with tesco and my contract is ending in 2 months with them. i was looking for contract free bb as i might move to canada in december. i needed to ask u a few things ie do they support xbox live? and which package are they offering, they have 3 on the website. even if its 1mb its fine with me, im on 512k with tesco and it serves my purpose. and one more what info do they need to get my bb activated like migrating code etc.

The silver package is the offer that you can get the first 6 months for £14.99 on a 1mb line (if your line can support it), It reverts to £17.99 after the initial period. I believe that all their packages however are contract free as long as you provide your own modem(router).

I can not guarantee that they support xbox live as I dont have an xbox to try it on - but i'd see no reason as to why they would not, especially with AOL being such a big company, however if there was a problem then you could always leave as you will be contract free. I confirmed this with them prior to signing up and have a letter stating such.

Finally, you need to request a migration code (mac) from tesco, basically telling them that you want to leave. Once you have this give AOL a phone on the above number and voila.

Thanks very much i called up tesco last night and they would give me the mac code 2 weeks bfr my account with them expires. so i guess i would be joining aol.

A warning to those looking at migrating and some questions for those already on AOL.

I decided aol was for me and decided to sign up. The page states that if you use your own equipment and therefore you do not require their's you can have a monthly contract. However, there list of approved hardware is rather limitted, and then it says that you do not need to do anything and you just have to install the CD that they send.

Big worries. I actually use a PCI ADSL modem to access the internet at the moment, and the only ones on the list are either usb or routers, and there are nto that many. The reason seems to be related to AOL's software. Now my idea was to carry on mainly as normal and access the internet normally, and if I want to use AOL, I can use AOL extras but from past experience probably not. It was the price that attracted me.

I'm concerned that I may end up being tied to using AOL's software to even be able to access the internet, and that I may have to start using a USB modem again.

This trial of AOL may end up being shorter than I envisaged! Anyone know how much you are tied to using AOL's proprietary systems or whether you can just fire up through Window's built in networking if you wish?
