There are slighly cheaper options available, but I really like the service that I get from http://1and1.co.uk I use them to host my charity's website and for £4.99/month I get the domain name, webspace, lots of bandwidth and a really great admin interface that gives me loads of info.

Not trying to knock 1and1 but, while quoting a monthly price sounds quite cheap, it is £60 pa. A .co.uk domain is around £9.99 <£8.50 ex vat> for 2 yrs. Hosting with somebody like http://www.virtualnames.co.uk/ is £23.50 pa <£20 ex vat>. So you could have a perfectly good domain and hosting for £28.50 pa. <£24.25 ex vat>

dont know where people are getting £60 for a 1and1 webhosting have just gone through their sign up and it would cost £32.74 inc vat
This is for 12 months instant website
and 2 years domain name registration (.co.uk domain)
    including in this is
    • 20 POP3 accounts
    • 100 e-mail aliases
    • 1&1 Webmail & auto-responder
    • Virus scan for all 5 e-mail accounts
    • DNS Management
    • 8 page 1&1 WebsiteBuilder
    • FTP Access
although it says 8 page website this is with their own software you get 250 Mb of space, so if using own FTP software more than 8 pages

    Rick,

It's difficult to believe Freeola.com. I'm naturally suspicious and am looking for the cathc but can't see it. Anyone else use, and can rceommend, Freeola.com?

Well I found the catch with freeola.

Too late, annoyingly, having read through their ToC, I didn't catch that you had to physically dial up through them to upload stuff to your website or receive your emails ending with your domain. What a ******* joke. I've got a broadband connection, I can't dial up, I don't even have a bloody dial up modem.

Rang their customer service 'Ring back tomorrow, don't have a manager'.

    :(
