I agree with the above post about knocking on doors and saying sorry if you have disturbed them in some way. It would be a thoughtful thing to do, even if you believe that there is little to complain about. It will show them that you aren't an ar***ole of a neighbour that is so selfish they dont give a damn. It will also keep communication open, rather than the situation turn into something unsolvable with bitterness on either or both sides.

For two years we lived in a concrete pre-fab and the young bloke next door rented out the spare rooms in his house to two friends. They would have music on so loud you could feel it vibrate through the furniture in our house. From 10am through to 8pm there was constant thudding of the music, then we would have a couple of hours peace whilst they were at the pub until 11.30, when they would come home again with a load of mates, put the dance music back on and start arguing between themselves. This would go on until about 1am when there would be a big fight in the garden and the police would turn up. This happened almost every night. It was the most awful 2 years of my life and I ended up on anti-d's.

We tried to talk to them once and the agressive response we got, including threats, ment that we never did this again. We also wrote to the management company and gave details and were told that there had been many complaints and that they were going to write to them. I tried to get support from other neighbours but everyone said they were too worried about the consequences if they spoke out, so I never found out who had made the other complaints.

10 years later and the same bloke still lives in the house, we live around the corner and often have to walk past. The music is still loud and we still get the odd comments shouted out from him. I feel so sorry for the people who are renting our old house, I know that the landlord has tried to sell many times and has now given up due to the noise.

Yes best just to keep the peace I think.

I lived in a 'Warner' flat in East London. They were built as flats during early 1900's. I could hear noise from all five neighbours surrounding the property. However the only neighbours that ever bugged me were ones that were noisy between 10pm and 8am. There were 5 people in a 2 bedroom flat (rented out to foreign students/and dodgy people who came for a week with a suitcase and then left. You could hear snoring, talking, TV, music, cooking etc. I could also hear the woman upstairs doing a wee. Needless to say I moved. I don't mind normal noise (kids, DIY etc) at reasonable hours as that is just life. I think that houses are better sound proofed on the whole but I really want a detached as the only way to avoid this or a canal boat!
