  • It's a sad fact that the rest of us have to pay by way of increased prices for these ridiculous claims from greedy people who refuse to take responsibilty for themselves.

    i dont see any harm in writing to the hotel and asking to see a copy of the report they are going to carry out.

    Its ok for other posters to say your looking for sompensation and your just an ambulance chaser but you could have had a more serious injury, just because the hotel said they are non slip tiles it doesn't mean they aren't slippy, you dont know how long those tiles have been down and the condition they are in, things do wear down and as far as you know they could have been down 20 years.

    I would keep the letter polite and wouldn't mention that you are after any compensation (unless thats the ony reason) but i would point out that you are a regular visitor and you are concerned about the effectiveness of the non slip tiles within the shower areas, which whilst your injury was painfull thankfully nothing was broken, had it been a more elderly person they could have easily broken a leg/hip with such a fall.
    A good hotelier or any business for that matter will appreciate a letter because they know next time someone who does like a good old sue is likely to claim a lot more for compo. IMO
    Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

    I think the comments re it's your fault, shouldn't be let out of the house are uncalled for.

    No-one sets out to have an accident and unless OP you were behaving irresponsibly running through the showers squirting shower gel and chasing people flicking towels (Benny hill theme tune here!) I think the hotel has a duty of care to ensure they provide non-stick tiles.

    Should you require any medial attention that you have had to pay for out of pocket (i.e. not covered by NHS / insurance) then yes, I think the hotel should shoulder some costs – there may be legalities here i.e.: disclaimers when you sign into the hotel that I’m not aware of but I’m sure any lawyers on here can set you straight.

    I do think, as you are regular guests you should contact the hotel and enquire with the manager about the H&S review he has overtaken – of course he doesn’t’ have to share with you however!

    I would write a letter – yes, enquiring about the above and as you are regular guests, you feel unsafe about returning to that particular hotel which is a shame as I’m sure if you return then you must enjoy it there. He may furnish you with a voucher/monetary bonus for your next visit.

    In this day and age of thieves suing householders because they had an accident whilst burgling your house (and yes, this has happened and the court has awarded the thief money!) I think you have every right to look into this further.

    Thank you all for your advice and comments (nice and otherwise!)

    I am usually lucky enough to be able to go outside my home and not have any accidents and in fact have been doing this for 37 years now...:rotfl:

    We were in the same hotel in February and I remember saying to my husband at the time that I thought the tiles were very slippy. In fact both my husband and my young daughter slipped only a few minutes before I did, but fortunately did not actually fall. I was not rushing about at the time and in fact was barely moving when my feet just gave way under me.

    I've decided not to pursue this - as many of you so rightly say accidents do happen!

    'Could have's and 'should have's have no basis in fact. The situation is best assessed on it's own merit and what did happen. Imo. :)

    well thank you for that sherlock, what i was merely pointing out was that a lot of the posters were just saying she slipped it must be her fault, when in fact no one actually knows what kind of condition the tiles are in, i know if i owned that hotel i would rather be told there is a potential problem and have the oppourtunity to resolve it before another accident which could be potentially more serious happens again.
    Just for the record its called a near miss report, used by millions of companies world wide to report a potential accident so it can be fixed before a serious MAY occur, prevention is better than cure.

    The OP i thik should still write to them and ask if any action is going to be taken with regards to the health and safety of the shower areas

    That part was what I replied to. She didn't...and it wasnt, so stick to the facts.

    That isn't the same thing as pointing out to the hotel that their tiles were slippy. That can easily be done on the situation as it stands. Sherlock. :rolleyes:

    As far as the tiles are concerned, only you know if they were worn or not.

    Tiles could be made that are completely non slip, but they would be so rough that they would get people trying to claim compensation for grazes caused by the roughness of the tiles. So they have to be a compromise.

    As far as your neighbour is concerned, I'm amazed. The fire alarm is there for your safety. But occasionally due to many possible reasons they go off when there isn't a fire. Some of the causes are dust, insects (usually thrips) etc.... And sometimes they are set off by guests spraying aerosols too close to the detector, smoking (even though they shouldn't any more), or even steam from the shower. Then you also have malicous activations when someone pushes a break glass. But whatever the cause, at least she knows that the alarm works. So I'm afraid that false alarms are just something that you have to accept occasionally, and she was very lucky to receive anything at all.
