looking to switch broadband suppliers

sorry to sound thick
In laymen's terms, can someone help me please
I have been with virgin since 2004 and I pay £17.61
I am looking to change to plusnet at 5.99 a month for broadband and telephone calls.
I will apply through Uswitch.
Will they automatically disconnect me from virgin media ISP and from TalkTalk who are my current telephone calls supplier.
I keep hearing talks of contracts, can I assume that I am not on a contract since I have been with virgin since 2004?
Virgin upped my speed without my consent and that is when the price went up to 17.61 per month. I left it, because I cannot use the phone, and it is expensive to ring them.
Also, what do people think of plusnet, it seems a big saving.
Are they likely to put up the price without asking me?
Are there any hidden fees?
Is this deal too good to be true?
sorry for the flurry of questions
thank you in advance for your help

Who is your line rental paid to at moment?0

Plusnet inclusive price is only for weekend and evening calls, and you have to pay them line rental. Anytime calls adds £5.95.
Also the £5.99 offer only applies if you are on a market 3 exchange, otherwise it goes up to £11.99 after 3 month.
And it's an 18 month contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
For your broadband - is your Virgin Broadband on Cable or ADSL?
If the Modem is connected to a coax cable ( looks like a TV cable ) then you will have to contact Virgin to cancel. Your Plusnet will then be a new ADSL install on your phone line.
If the Modem is plugged into a normal telephone socket you need to get a broadband MAC code from Virgin to pass to Plusnet. ( this is to stop you being migrated without your consent ).
Looking at the Plusnet website it's an 18 month contract and might be more expensive than you think as you also have to pay for telephone line rental.
£5.99 gets you value broadband with a 10GB download cap which may go up to £11.99 after 3 months ( for 20% of customers depending on their location ).
Add £10.95 telephone line rental and the total is either £16.94 or £22.94. This gets you free evening and week-end calls to UK landlines.
To get free daytime calls to landlines included is an extra £5 per month.
(sorry macman for duplicate, crossed posts!)0 -
No problem blanik. I assumed the OP was on cable as he refers to 'Virgin Media ISP', not Virgin National? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

My line rental is with BT.
My virgin broadband is with ADSL
Is there anyway I can do this without the expensive phone costs?
thank you
Sorry for the confusion Macman I just meant Virgin, as my Internet Serivice Provider.
thank you in advance
OK, so you're on Virgin National.
Sorry but what do you mean by 'expensive phone costs'?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
By expensive phone costs, I presume that the number you ring, to contact virgin, is an expensive rate call.0
