There is the Yorkshire Sculpture Park at Bretton Hall which is nice for a walk.

    Royal Armouries in Leeds?

I live in Holmfirth and you'll not need more than a couple of hours here - 4 charity shops, a couple of summer wine sites you can see and you have to have some Longley's Ice cream!

Try the Kirklees Light Railway - not far from Denby Dale. http://www.kirkleeslightrailway.com/content/home.php

    Good Morning everyone

Just a word on the lockwood carboot - went a couple of weeks back and there were about 35 - 40 cars there. They mainly seemed to be people clearing out unwanted items too rather than traders. But Grange Moor is definitley the one to try. Am I right in thinking it is not on every Sunday though?

Hi, I live just down the road and AAghrah is a great restaurant in Denby Dale. It is a very reasonably priced Indian buffet or you can also order from a menu. The food is deleious and ii is part of a small chain around the area. I would reccomend. Also for a day out Cannon hall is great and free! it has some excellent farm shops and a museum as well as the grounds.

:beer:Thank you everyone for your replies, busy Googling all these places now! We've only got Friday morning until Sunday PM, I think I'll have to pick and choose very carefully!

We've spent lots of self catering hols in Yorkshire when our girls were younger, and I just love the people, really friendly and up-front, and have time for you. I fact I love the whole area.

Will I need to diet when I get back then, this Longley's Ice cream looks like it's an absolute MUST!!!

Think we'll come up (from Wales) early Friday, stop in Holmfirth have a look around, have fish n'chips at Compo's have a walk with an ice cream. Maybe go to Outlet village J32 if there is time. Check in at hotel and chill, possible go to the Indian and more chilling.
Up early on Sat-good breakfast (I hope) go to Halifax, The Piece Hall has been recommended by a friends Dad-anyone got any opinions on this? Look at the charity shops and everything else, an educational visit in the afternnon (haven't decided where!) then Pizza Express at Meadow Hall(evening meal) and more shopping (for Xmas of course!!)

Sunday I need to pick the best car booty, genuine traders if possible, with some bargains. Are any of these inside, or does this all depend on the weather? As I speak now on the 28th July it's pouring and there is a howling gale outside! Don't give me much hope for September!!!!
Thank you all for taking time to reply, amazing how much you learn on here!

The carboot at Halifax is outdoors and is pretty full up early doors 6:30/7am.

A few years back we went over to Dewsbury where they have carboot style stalls on the outdoor/indoor market but not sure if it still there or changed

I live just off Junction 32 of the M62 about 20 minutes from Denby Dale and we have an Xscape with loads of places to eat, Pizza Express, Ask, Frankie & Benny's, Subway, Nandos to name a few. There is also a 10 pin bowling alley, cinema, lazer quest type of place, indoor real snow ski slope, climbing wall, skate park and some bars. Next to it there is a discount shopping outlet with loads of good shops, GAP, M&S, Nike, Next Clearance etc.

If you do go to Junction 32 at Castleford there is a Pizza Express right next door at the Xscape so killing two birds with one stone. There is also a Ma Potters I believe and you can also use Tesco vouchers there. Castleford itself also has lots of charity shops. Hope this helps.

Ma Potters is now a Bella Italia so don't come if you're expecting one :)

There is also a decent car boot sale at Whitley Bridge (Jct 35 M35 I think) on a Sunday Morning.

Plus there's also Pontefract Castle as well if you decide to come over this way and if the kids like sweets Pontefract is also the home of Haribo and have a fab cheap factory shop :D
