Hi
I have just booked a weekend away at the begining of September with our Tesco Deals in Denby Dale.
I will get some more Deals to eat in Pizza Express and Bella Itallia in Leeds/Sheffield, both seem within easy driving distance (acording to AA Route Finder!!)
There will be just two of us, kids are grown up, just wondering firstly if anyone can recommend any nice/ interesting places to go?
My OH is into technology of any type.
Secondly I love car boot sales and charity shops, which town/city would be best for charity shops, or are they about the same, and is parking easy/expensive, or is park and ride better-if there is one??
I have searched on line and there seems to be some car boots :
Pannal Car Boot-Sunday A61?
Broad Street, Halifax ?
Just wondering if anyone knows of any good boots in the area, which day they are on, and if they will be still going in September?
Oh and maybe factory shops or designer outlets (Cheshire Oaks type) maybe I can start my Xmas shopping!
Thank you in advance

There's an outlet at the Pontefract turnoff on the M62, with the usual Marks, Next etc.
J27 of the M62 has all the big sheds and caffs..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
The boot sale at halifax is a decent one, Huddersfield has a few charity shops but the parking is abysmal. the nearest cheshireoaks type village is the one on the M62 at Castleford called J32 (google junction 32 fror details). Also not sure if the carboot at grangemoor is still on on Saturdays (am).
A decent place to visit is the national photographic museum in bradford, plenty parking behind it and free to get in.
Theres also the national coal mining museum if you fancy a trip down the pits with mining helmet and all, again totally free (Ithink)
If into medical history the thackray medical museum is worth a visit, next to St James's hospital, Leeds but costs around £4 toget in with £1 parking
enjoy your stay0 -
Hi pgt67
Is that the Broad Street car boot?
Parking poor, do you mean nowhere to park, or it's all really expensive? Usually OH can find a side street somewhere....hopefully!!!
Off to Google the national coal mining museum, and photography one now, see which one suits him. Especially if I'm dragging him round charity shops and car boots!!
Thanks
Errata- do you happen to know the name of that outlet?

Hi Toozie
Don't know if you are into 'Last of the Summer Wine' but Denby Dale is not far from Holmfirth where the series was filmed. Nice little town worth an afternoons visit -if only to sample Longley Farms Ice Cream!! Yummy. A TV location trip runs too but I have never used it so cannot comment on that. Tourist Info in the centre of town. Lots of lovely countryside around as well.
There is also a Car Boot every Sunday morning at Lockwood on the outskirts of Huddersfield. Usually runs well into the autumn.
Have a lovely time

The outlet on the M62 is called Junction 32 sign up for a discount card, it has some decent shops including Next, M&S and Monsoon. Also good for outdoor stuff.
Sheffield has Meadowhall which is a decent shopping location, also easy to get to Chatsworth and places like Matlock and Buxton.
Enjoy!0 -

Yes, we loved Compo!
We've both got Friday off work, so were actually thinking of travelling up early and stopping in Holmfirth for some lunch, a walk-and ice cream now too!!
Don't think we're going to see much of this nice hotel, after I've finished on here!
We love to go somewhere, and think we've seen as much as we can of the area, although hubby will complain his feet hurt by Sunday!!
Although we've stayed in York, Whitby, Yorkshire Dales area's before-usually in self catering with kids, never been around Halifax before-looking forward now.

Hi
There is a big car boot sale at Grange Moor, which is near to the Coal Mining museum. It is on a Sunday morning, but I dont know if it will still be running in September - definitely worth a trip if it is though!

Parking is quite expensive and there aren't many side streets i would leave my car on for too long. Seems i got the day wrong for the Grange Moor Bootsale, sorry.
If eating in Holmfirth try compos Fish & chip at top of Burnlee rd holmfirth http://compos-cafe.moonfruit.com/0 -
Lockwood is actually more central Huddersfield and if it is the one located near the fitness centre then you would be best off giving it a miss. When I went last year there was a small turnout and I went round the lot in a couple of minutes.Hi Toozie

If you do go to Junction 32 at Castleford there is a Pizza Express right next door at the Xscape so killing two birds with one stone. There is also a Ma Potters I believe and you can also use Tesco vouchers there. Castleford itself also has lots of charity shops. Hope this helps.
