windows 7 whats the big pull?

  • Personally I spent months trying to get the network printing working in Vista, a task that took less than a minute with Windows 7. My network hard drive still appears in My Computer with a big red cross through it in Vista-works flawlessly in 7. I have had, and continue to have, dozens of problems with Vista and the only solutions are generally workarounds found after hours of searching. In my opinion Windows Vista was only ever the Beta (or perhaps Alpha) version of Windows 7, and I can't wait to rid my system of the abomination. I think that Microsoft should allow everyone unfortunate enough to be labouring under Vista a cheaper upgrade to Windows 7.

    I feel better now...! :p

At the same time it's less resource hogging than Vista was.

Still not as slim line as XP is. For a fast machine its worth a try but otherwise I really dont see much point to vista and this update, bloatware is more common then real innovation

    What bloat?

Why should slimline matter? HDD space is no longer as precious as it once was.

The SSD drives I have perform far better than they ever did on any previous version of Windows which is one of the major draws, alongside everything else that changed in Vista compared to XP.

the main thing for me is that you can get a retail version for less than £100 or less than £50 in some cases ,it might say upgrade put the eu rules mean it the full retail one marketed has a upgrade for know (until next year me thinks or until Microsoft gets the upgrade working right)
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff

The more code there is the more chance there is of it having vulnerabilities.

An efficiently written operating system will perform better on any level of hardware and will probably have less errors and vulnerabilities - bloatware indicates slipshop coding.

Virtually nobody believes that MS can produce another OS as bad as Vista so they are buying the upgrades. I'm not entirely convinced so my credit card will remain in my wallet. If Windows 7 does prove to be good I'd probably swap out my Vista lappy rather than upgrade.

When XP came out, I didn't adopt to it until SP1 (Service Pack 1) - usually when most of the bug are ironed out. But for the time being, I clung onto Windows 98 like it was gold dust.

Now, I don't think I could go back to Windows 98 again, and look it in the eye. I like XP quite a lot now that I am used to it.

Having tried Vista, I don't think I will find it hard to adopt Windows 7. I will probably leave it for a week or two, for any bugs to be ironed out.

I'm waiting on delivery for a new PC which comes with Vista. After doing a bit of research and talking to a couple of people who beta tested Windows 7 it just makes more sense to me to upgrade to 7. Having said that the big attraction for me was the half price offer, I wouldn't of pre ordered 7 if it was full price. I'm one of those people that likes to wait around after something new has been released to get feedback from other users and wait for any bugs to be ironed out.

My current PC is 5 years old and running XP, if I hadn't of ordered a new PC I would've of stuck with XP for a variety of reasons, one being it just about meets the minimum specs for Windows 7, and I was quite happy running XP.

Mind you one of the reasons I purchased a new PC was so I could play The Sims 3 so it's not like I was born with much sense...:o

i havent used windows 7 yet but personally i find microsofts realeases of OS only any good with one in between, i.e 98 was brilliant and loved it, ME was absouletly !!!!! to say the least, XP is fantastic, VISTA i hated and reinstalled xp, so by that logic i think i will love 7.

It all depends what you use your computer for, if your jsut your baisc home user who looks on the net and sends a few emails you probably wont care about about some of the minor bugs/details as you would never even notice them.
Personally my issue with vista is the compatability problem, it took just too long to get software to make things compatable, it also uses mega amounts of memory to run, its a personal thing and you will use what your happy with, i even still have 98 running on a desktop for work purposes along with 2 desktops and a laptop on xp and 2 laptops on vista.
I wont be rushing out to buy 7 until it has had a few of the kinks ironed out nothing worse than a sketchy OS
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

Of course it is not as slimline as XP. XP is eight years old. Nor is it as slimline as Windows 98 or Windows 3.1.
