If you are going to put in your first post I am claiming JSA but I am not going to work for two months, then you have to expect to be questioned. No regular on this board dislikes benefit claimants, infact there are a few that claim benefits. We help numerous people but if we find a flaw in a post we will query it.
You are a classic poster, start bleeting when you don't like the answer. I am not an expert on crisis loans but it seems like you have had good advice from people who work in this area, so there is no need to be sarcastic.0 -

I was under the impression that it was a same day decision, so do they send someone out to check if your cooker isnt working and to see bank documents? How does it work?
If your asking for a cooker on a crisis loan they will probably point you in the direction of a budgeting loan instead. Crisis loans are to cover food, electricity etc when you have none because of your situation. I have got a crisis loan before to cover the period of recieving a first benefit payment. But they will ask for bank statements etc to prove you have to money to hand, they will prob also ask if there is anyone you could borrow off. Basically they will ask you if there is any other way of getting the money to cover your period of crisis. If you want it that day you'd better off be there first thing in the morning as it involves decision making on their part. If you do receive it they'll ask you to sign for it and to agree for so much to come off your benefits to pay it back.0 -

Yeah maybe she's not trained in the admin of crisis loans - I didnt say she was. I said she wouldnt have told me about the crisis loan if I was 100% unable to get one.
Alot of you guys seem to really dislike anyone who claims anything. I've been made to feel like I'm committing a crime by asking a question. I've never claimed anything in my entire life. I've worked full time since I left college. I'm not the scum of the earth.
Believe it or not, people in the jobcentre regularly tell people to apply for things when they are not entitled to them. Unfortunately when this happens people shout about them not being adequately trained. They are not trained to give advice on whether someone could even possibly be entitled to something. They generally do not know whether someone is entitled or not. It is their job to refer someone to someone who may be able to help, in the same manner that if you went into a council office because you are struggling to pay your council tax and don't qualify for benefit, they would refer you to the money advice centre to see if they can help you manage any debts. Being referred doesn't mean you are entitled to help. It's being referred to someone who may be able to help. There are cases where someone has been referred to a Crisis Loan for items which are completely excluded.
If you have not received a benefit decision on your JSA, but have applied you may get an alignment to benefit depending on a variety of factors. What you need the money for, what other resource you have, what would happen if you didn't receive a payment. When you say you missed a payment what do you mean? Have you had a decision on your JSA application? Have you missed a sign on and been sanctioned? You may well be able to get an alignment to benefit, but the full situation is not posted, so it is difficult for us to advise.
I have been on benefits myself in the past as have many people who post on here. You are getting information on Crisis Loans. If you don't like that information, that's fair enough - I'm not asking you to like it, I'm giving you the facts.0 -
AsknAnswer wrote: »A Crisis Loan CAN pay for a cooker. There are two types of Crisis Loan: one for immediate living expenses and one for household items. You can only get a Crisis Loan if there is a serious and immediate risk to your health and safety or that of your family if you do not receive a payment and if you have no other resource. They are payable in a Crisis or emergency situation. It is not always a same day payment; that is decided upon by prioritising Crisis Loan applicaitons.
They have a number of ways of checking things, it depends on what you are applying for and what has happened to cause the emergency. If you are due a payment of benefit, you will not get a Crisis Loan as this is not the purpose of them.
A budgeting loan would pay for a cooker or simlar NOT a crisis loan !0 -
