Nuisance calls in the middle of the night

Can anyone advise me please. For a few months now we have been experiencing out of area calls. There is someone on the phone but hardly able to understand what they are saying (it is some sort of company). Anyway we alternate between putting the phone down or telling them not to phone us but this has not worked.
Now we have started getting these calls through the night (last night 2.30 am and 5.30 am). We are registered with TPS but obviously this does not apply to overseas calls and the woman I spoke to at BT this morning was unable to help saying BT could not do anything and that "they are just targetting your area at the moment and they will die off" (great!). In the meantime my OP has a bad case of shingles, I am still off work recovering from a major operation so this is causing very unwelcome stress and upset - we are having a REALLY good Easter! Don't really want to unplug phone every night as we have elderly, not in good health parents etc. Our kids are foul in the day cos of being woken up during the night. Would be very very grateful if anyone has any ideas on how to deal with this problem.

You need to get back onto BT and ask to be put through to their Nuisance Calls Bureau - it exists for exactly this sort of thing.
If needs be, tell them the calls are threatening, they're duty bound to investigate. You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -

thanks chuckles - so will they still investigate even if the calls are overseas if I say they are threatening? Must admist I would lie through my teeth and walk over hot coals at this precise moment to get this stopped. Thanks for responding so quickly - really appreciate it.0 -
We had a similar problem recently, it sounded like someone was trying to send us a fax. Phone was ringing all time of day and night. In the end we changed our phone number and that stopped it.
If you do 1471 what number comes up? BT can block specific phone numbers or block all unidentified numbers from calling you. Might be worth a try.
Hope you get it sorted out.Sorting my life out to give a better life to my:heartsmil 2 gorgeous boys :heartsmil0 -

no number is registering with 1471 when we ring that so spose that makes it even more difficult to get it stopped but will carry on trying 1471 you never know - one day they might forget to block it (hopefully). We actually asked BT to stop all international calls but they reckon they can't do this. Have to say, I find it incredible in this day and age and the technology at our disposal that international calls can't be stopped (or am I just being naive?).0 -
If your absolutely sure the person calling is the Nuisance Caller blow a whistle down the phone!!!! This can deter them from calling again.0

And in this namby-pamby society in which we now live, will lead to a massive claim for compensation from some Claims Direct type parasite for "permanent damage to hearing"
It would be funny if it weren't so sad......You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky

Bt can offer annoyomus call rejection . They normally charge for it .I dont no it if it works for international calls .
A few years ago I was receiving annoymous calls .I had call divert on my line at the time . When i went to bed I diverted all my calls to the local police .I only had to do this for a few night .it stoped the annoymous call .0
