Many Thanks for your help and advice guys,

Feeling a bit more positive today.

My plan is to leave the one phone (SIM card now in another Motorola W375 handset kindly donated by Aunty..locked to Virgin tho..any ideas as to how to unlock it?!) and continue to pay the the reduced £30.00 monthly, keeping number (had for ages) and contract to run until November '10, just being extra careful to stay well within my inclusive allowance (my bill for this, this month has just come out, totalling £39.00 all in.

As for the other contract (taken out November '08, I haven't been using that at all) - this is still at £35, but I'm calling O2 now, to request that they lower it to the £30, and onto 'incoming calls only' (as previously offered by O2 chap on phone last week). I would rather have them cancel this contract completely though, but methinks, I'm dreaming! :-/

Is there no way that O2 will write this off, without a penalty, seeing as of August, I'm halfway through the contract (18 month - so ends May '09)?

    Thanks again,

Off to give them a buzz,

    Leigh :-)

As already stated, O2 pay close to the full amount of the iphones, I think they start making a profit on Iphone customers once they've had it for 15 months I believe? If they let you cancel halfways through, they'd lose quite a bit of money.

One of the reasons I haven't been on this forum for a while is because I was becoming disheartened with the way genuine people who have made a few mistakes that they held their hand up to were beng treated by other members ie very bady.

I'm glad to see that this isn't the case here. All the replies have been supportive.

I would agree with everone else. Reduce your price plan to the minimum you can/see what they will take to pay your way out of the contract you don't want. If it's a good saving then it may be worth it. Whatever you do, try not to default on it as this could affect your credit rating.

As to unlocking the phone that your auntie gave you, there are a couple of threads dedicated to that, there may even be fellow MSE members who could do that for you.

Alternitively if you can affor about £25 then you could do a lot worse than going to Dialaphone (via quidco) and buying a cheap O2 handset. You may be forced into buying credit for it but you could probably flog the PAYG sim card with the credit on it. Dialaphone tend to supply unlocked handsets.
