I have deleted some stuff and the space went up and i then put it back and the space reduced
Seems to be sticking at 1.58gb free space and when i try to put stuff on
I get an error message "0x80070052 The directory or file cannot be created" tryed a search and gave up
I will try the stick in another pc later on

Another PC won't help. There's something wrong with the drive. Does this help - it looks at lots of possibilities and then finds a solution:

Thanks for that grahawk but what does this mean

When I looked into the contents of my usb flash drive, I had around 15 folders and over a 120 word documents, 30 Pdf files and a few zip and image files stored in the root of the pen drive. Since new folders were not being created, I thought maybe there were too many files in the root area, so I moved all these individual files to a pre-existent folder (remember we cannot create a new folder). Now I had 15 folders and no single files in the root of the flash drive.

Does it mean indvidual photos and word doc's like, 195 photos and say 20 word or e mail doc's.
Then several folders some with photo's and some with word or e mail doc's in

Please keep it very simple ta

A 2gb flash memory stick can be had for £2.70 or less. See here. Reputable make too.

Probably not worth spending too much time on your problem. Throw it away and buy a new one.

Some flash drives can be set to read only

Whats the origin of this drive? Ask the retailer or if you got it cheap then just get a new one
Some far east dodgy outfits have been selling 200meg drives as 2000meg drives

If you run windows vista make sure the new drive you get is readyboost compatible

I think I agree - best way to keep it simple and save time.

remove all data from the flash drive,
    format it
download this little flashdrive tester, http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andy.chambers/h2testw_1.4.zip
    peid26-07-2009-16.43.13.jpg
put a TICK in ENGLISH, press select target and choose your flashdrive then click Write+Verify, this will now test your flashdrive, and verify what it writes to it. when finished, open the flashdrive you tested and delete the single file or format it again.
It should pop up a window telling you how many bytes it written and verified.
I have used the above program on my 1gb mp3 player. I downloaded this tool as i bought a 32gb mp4 player via ebay which wasnt 32gb, turned out to be a hacked 4gb player.

It's expensive (per GB), paying for the brand name/size.
