When i check it by going through "my computer" it shows that it is 1/4 ful with loads of room.

the stick has never been full and has always shown 1/4 full .

Please can someone advise

Thank you Niall

Where did you get the USB stick?

There are lots of cheap knock-offs floating about that don't have anywhere near their advertised capacity.

I have had it for ages but never delete stuff and had no probs putting stuff on it.

Would it still show loads of free space

  • If there's nothing important on it, right click and format it. See what happens then.

I have just found out that my son has used the stick at school and loaded a power point thing on using a newer version of power point than what i have on my pc.
    would this affect the stick?

Create a folder on your desktop called usb

Go to your usb drive in explorer, Ctrl A, Control C

Go into your usb folder on your desktop, control V

    check the data is there.

Go to your usb drive in explorer, right click, format, then check available space.

  • You mention that the drive has always been 1/4 full? Have you got any other USB devices plugged in by any chance, such as a modem or another USB drive? Perhaps you're checking the wrong device, or saving to the wrong device? (I don't know what your level of expertise is with a computer, so apologies if I'm being over simplistic.)

Yes there's clearly something wrong if it always shows 1/4 full - this has to change as you add more stuff. If you put everything into a folder on your PC as described above how big is that folder (right click the folder and choose properties) and how big is the usb stick?
