No sound in monitor speakers, I've tried all the suggestions on microsoft 'help' pages. I'm sure it's something simple. Have only used headphones since buying it and since removing the headphones connection wire, the speakers won't work.
thanks for any ideas.

Do you need to plug an additional cable from the monitor to your soundcard? A normal monitor VGA connection won't carry sound - you need an additional cable. Make sure you haven't plugged the cable into the output of your soundcard and not into the microphone input (it's easily done.) On my PC the stereo output socket is green.
Can you plug something else into the monitor speakers to test them, e.g. a MP3 player/iPod or similar? Also check the Sound and Audio Devices Control Panel (Start->Control Panel->Sound and Audio Devices) - make sure that all the volume sliders are two-thirds of maximum.0 -
Thanks Mr quiddy, tried all that but still no joy.Shanni0

Try uninstalling your sound card in device manager. Restart your computer and reinstall the drivers.0

Right click My Computer and select Manage.
Select Device Manager from the left hand side of the window that opens.
Click the + next to Sound, video and game controllers.
Right click your audio device and select Uninstall.
When its done restart your computer and it should reinstall the drivers.0 -
Hi
Try run, control panel, sounds and audio devices, make sure the Mute is not ticked, you can also test your speakers from here.
Hope this helps0 -

Hi
Do you know what sound card you have and do you have the drivers for it? they usually come on a disc with the pc, or if you haven't got one you can search on the internet, if you know what card you have. sometimes xp will find the drivers but I've found that sometimes they won't and you have to install them yourself.
Hope this helps0
