Normal car park or hotel at Heathrow

Hi all

decisions decisions.....Heathrow car park or stay at a hotel

my flight from terminal 5 to NY (going for 5 days) is at 08.55

If I have to be there 2 hours before check in time that means I leave home at 3am

has anyone stayed at a hotel the night before their flight near Heathrow and parked their car there?...if so can you recommend one?

Thanks

It would certainly be my preference to stay at a hotel.

Very few hotels at Heathrow have on site parking, free or otherwise, for more than the night you stay there. The packages mostly have you take the car to an airport car park either the previous evening or in the morning.

Two exceptions - the Park Inn (at the A4 junction). However the car park is not that big and they don't seem to limit bookings. If you arrive late on a busy night you might have trouble finding a place. Fine otherwise.

the Crowne Plaza (at the M4 turnoff) - huge car park, but a fairly pricy hotel. It's probably the one I would recommend, particularly if you can book it as one of Holiday Extras mystery hotels. Try to avoid eating there though - prices are horrendous (£18 a head for breakfast) - wait until you get to the terminal. The Hoppa bus serves it and T5 catering ain't bad by airport standards.

There may be one or two others but the above are the ones I've used.

Try bidding for a 4* Heathrow hotel on Priceline. I've done this 3 times in the past and got the Sheraton Skyline on Bath Road every time for a bid of about £36 (£40-odd inc tax and charges). Parking was about £18 overnight and I then used Purple Parking for while I was away.

Having got up and driven at that time of the morning and felt the effects, we have opted to book into a hotel that has parking for our next flight that is early morning.

Travelling is tiring enough without being up at silly o'clock on the day of travel.

We used FHR to find the hotel deal and had a £10 off voucher (check the voucher board here or Google it) so ended up paying £54 for hotel plus 2 weeks parking.

I have often found that the price difference between a "hotel & parking" deal and just a parking deal is fairly negligable. In fact I have previously found it cheaper to stay in a hotel than just to park. For your timings I'd definately go for the hotel option. I've previously done this at Heathrow but can't for the life of me remember the hotels used. I normally book through holiday extras though!

Assuming you go for that option, what time will you need to leave the hotel in the morning?

I'd probably choose to stay at a hotel given your flight times and destination.

You'll be able to make much better use of your first day in New York if you've had a decent night's sleep instead of being up and on the road so early in the morning.

If you do go for a hotel with off site parking, I'd take the car to the car park the night before - probably going to save you an hour in the morning.

The Travelodge in Feltham has parking at £10. Also the St Giles in Feltham has parking. I believe its £6 per night.
