SUCCESS "BUY IT NOW" with "Best Offer"

Read a few threads about successfully listing Buy It Now items.

Has anyone added the "or Best Offer" with their listings.

I am going to do a few Buy it Nows and include "or Best Offer" but wondered what happens when a "best offer" is sent/offered?

If a buyer submits a "Best Offer" and you accept it, what happens next?

Is the buyer commited to buy?

When an eBayer submits a best offer it stays valid for 48 hours, and it is legally binding, just like an ordinary winning bid.

You are sent an email notifying you of the best offer, and it is at your discretion with regards to whether or not to accept the offer. If you accept a 'best offer', the listing ends just like it would normally, except with the best offer price.

Everything thereafter is standard eBay procedure.

    Hope this helps.

  • I had some cheeky so-and-so make an offer of 50p for a suit I'd listed at £7.99 or best offer! Their offer wouldn't even have covered my eBay fees. I did also sell a "best offer" item successfully for only a little less than the asking price, though. Unfortunately the bidder's ID is partly hidden so you can't send them messages.

I'm glad to hear I am not the only one to have received cheeky (well, bordering the line of insulting) offers!!
All of which I turned down!!

  • I too have stupid offers for items, I've currently got an item on at £29.99 & someone has offered £1. Sometimes if the offers too stupid I don't even bother replying.

eBay would like you to think it's legally binding, contract law says otherwise.

My Oh, has been selling some vinyl on "make me a best offer" and some of the stuff is plain ridiculous. Item £10 BIN ( you cant get it anywhere on the interenet for less that 30) offered 1.50, no thanks, relisted a few weeks later SAME GUY offers 85p.

I personally think its a waste of time & dont use it.

If I would be happy to take 85p for it Id have listed at 85p BIN
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind

With best offer you they only make one offer so you might as well not decline their offer and let it run out! especially if it is stupid. I have had 3 offers on one item once and left them til the latest time and accepted the highest one!

I never had any good luck with the best offer either. People even tried me with 0.01p. Cant see the point with it. But since you dont have to accept the offer you could always try it. It's an experiance for you if nothing else.
  • Some things it is a good idea, I have something listed at £4.99, they offered £4 which I was happy to accept as I need the space & the money rather than all my items not selling.

I used the best offer recently on some of my BINs. Funniest thing was something I had listed at £28, got an offer of £15 which I declined. Got a message through 'ask seller a question' saying that £15 was a fair offer and I wouldn't get any more, but if I could post it out that day he would increase his offer to £16 and pay immediately. Approx 20 minutes later it sold on an offer for £26 . I then got another message from original bidder telling me it wasn't right that I sold it before giving him the opportunity to increase his offer!
