How much to send roughly 4kg to Australia?

  • 42-61 days is too slow, I won't be covered via Paypal's 45 day chargeback so it'd have to be quicker than that. If the buyer doesn't like the price I'll just have to do a 2nd chance offer and/or relist but I'm not willing to send something that slow. They should have emailed first for a quote if they don't like the price.

Seems you can also send it via a quicker method at £55.80 for 4kg. This one has a delivery aim of 7-10 days, which is better.
  • I send packages to the USA and Australia on a regular basis. You can send up to 5kg surface [don't write 'surface' on it, just don't put an airmail sticker on] if you mark the package as 'printed papers' [write it just above the ISF label] and assuming a weight of 4.5kg after packaging the price would be £22. BUT you should send it International Signed For at an extra cost of £3.30 because you need to insure the item value and the postage cost. Also in my experience an item sent by international signed for will arrive within 21 days and of course is trackable online. Don't forget to cover the Paypal charges by adding 5% to the total cost. If you've quoted £15 for the UK then an overseas buyer should not be surprised if the price is close to double that.

If you're not happy with any of that then you can also check the Parcelforce price on their website as this service is also available at the post office although it costs a lot more OR you can call Parcelforce to collect from your home and pass the collection charge on to your customer. It automatically includes insurance up to £100.
  • You don't have to worry about the 45 day Paypal deadline. As long as you have a Parcelforce or ISF tracking number to enter if the buyer should go down the route of filing with Paypal. It takes another 20-35 days for Paypal to respond after that.
  • I can only find £78.90 as the cheapest and guaranteed within 6 days.

Surely you shouldn't be recommending a seller to break PayPal rules by surcharging.

  • I always add a little amount into postage but never 5%, usually between 50p & £1 depending what item is & what packaging is used. Thanks for all your help, will let you know if thsi person ends up highest bidder.

You might want to check your understanding of that as although I like paypal I hate to see anyone caught by their rules and regulations and lose out.

If a buyer puts in a claim for non delivery, which can occur anytime from day 7, then the seller is required to prove 'delivery' (not postage) within 10 days after that. Obviously for surface mail this is impossible.

There has been instances on the ebay boards where paypal have accepted a tracking number and held the dispute, but this appears to be very very rare and should not be counted on.

Personally I do not sell abroad where the item cannot easily go by airmail. I would also always list my charges upfront so a buyer has no comeback if he feels the price quoted at the end of the auction is too high. Although it is ebay policy that a buyer commits to buy, it cannot be enforced so you can end up in the unpleasant situation of having to go theough the NPB process and risk a neg and possibly even lose the chance for a second chance offer if this occurs too long after the end of the auction.

  • I won't be sending Surface Mail anyway Soolin, I have heard too many horror stories like you said above. NPB process doesn't bother me too much, I was going to list this with a BIN @ £9.99 but decided to let it run at auction so anything I get around/above that I would be happy with. Perhaps if I PM you the item number you can see what you think to how to post it?
