Bought car insurance via quidco but never received cashback

Options
I am really quite annoyed, I used quidco for the first time last november to buy RAC car insurance as I was going to get £70 cashback (or so I thought) it never tracked so I raised a ticket which has been open for the last few months but as you will see below they have now closed it. Why are they allowed to do this? Is there anything I can do?
You2009-04-30 22:09:51Not happy - I bought my car insurance policy back in November 2008 through quidco and I have still not received my £70, please email me about this.

Admin2009-05-05 10:53:05Hi xxxxxxx, Thank you for your enquiry.

You raised a enquiry for this back in January but this has been declined by the merchant which is why this is currently showing as declined. We can look into this further with you usually but as 12 weeks have now elapsed since this was declined there is nothing further we can do regarding this transaction. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Kind Regards, Stephen.

2009-05-05 20:25:54Hi I was promised £70 for taking the insurance, I did take the insurance via your site, why has it tracked? Please send me a cheque for the £65 (£70 less your annual member fee) or I will be taking this to trading standards as this is a scam. Thank you.

2009-05-07 15:43:25Hi xxxxxxx, Thank you for your enquiry.

This transaction never tracked which is why we cannot pay you the cashback. You raised a enquiry because this did not track but this was declined in January on the 30th. Once a enquiry is declined we then have 12 weeks to raise a enquiry with a merchant. As you raised this ticket on the 30th of April I can escalate this transaction for you as you are just within this time but I cannot guarantee this will be successful. Can you please confirm the policy number so I can check this against what we have.

Kind Regards, Stephen.

2009-07-25 16:44:10Hi xxxxxxxxx,

We are writing to you regarding your RAC rejected enquiry which has been escalated with the relevant network.

We have been working hard with the network to retrieve an answer from the merchant. However, they have now confirmed to us that this merchant is unable to reverse the decision made on your original enquiry. Due to the merchant's decision, the resolution for this enquiry cannot be changed.

In light of this recent development we are no longer offering the escalation facility to members as the merchants are unable to change the original outcome supplied to us.

As part of our development and ongoing commitment to improving the service for our members, we are now working to implement a new procedure to ensure that circumstances like this do not occur in future.

Kind Regards,

All covered by the Quidco ts + cs (which you agreed to when joining).

In short, you agreed that they don't guarantee cashback, if they can't get the money, then they have no money to pass on to you, and that's your tough!
Although obvious, where for some reason a transaction is reversed, cancelled or denied by a merchant or network you will not receive cash back for that transaction

I did not do anything I should not have done like visiting comparison site (did but on another computer to avoid this) is this not a bit unfair though?

    Not "unfair".

How can they pay you if they didn't get paid?

There are always warnings about these sites that cashback isn't guaranteed, and that you shouldn't buy anything just on the strength of the cashback as it may not materialise!

Quidco does this often. They seem to rarely pay out on large amounts.

Don't think they'd keep going if they only "rarely" paid out. Everyone would know about it and go elsewhere!

Coincidentally there is some news on their site for people who have been waiting over a year for large insurance cashbacks:

Do you think I should give up or is there anyway to chase for it?

I said Pay out on "large amounts". I have reveived over a £1000 this year alone but over the last 3 years less than half the caskbacks of over £50 was paid out. I had a almost 100% success rate for amonts under £50. For amounts under £50 only theAA failed to pay up about 2 Years ago.

If it didn't track then there's nothing to chase.

By the way, I've been using quidco for over 3 years, have never failed to have something track and have always been paid out (£120 in one case). I've had over £2.5k out of quidco, so it's not a scam/rip off or anything like that, so long as you use it properly ;)

Not what you want to hear, but as it didn't track, and they have tried on your behalf without any result it looks a waste of time trying any more.
