    I wouldn't.

I would say there are three, the third of which you continually overlook.

    Namely.................energy security.

lol, in the words on JP McEnroe...you cannot be serious!!!

Pls explain what you're worried about wrt energy security; I would love to hear it.

    I'm not worried about anything.

I'm just saying the environment or money are not the only 2 things that would motivate people into looking at alternative energy sources.

They might not be the only two but they sure are the main two...by a long way.

Ironically they are as fallacious as security...and merely seem less fruitcakey...lol.

If you say so, magnificent one.

    What's your problem?

I'm happy to have a debate, but to do that you need to put forward a case.

I say the scammers [against all the evidence] are pushing 'savings' and 'green' as reasons for people to buy their rip-off systems.

You seem unable/unwilling to put forward an alternative POV [other than saying 'it's not all about 'savings/green', don't forget 'security''].

    So, what is your position??

Fairly simple question to you: Would you buy or recommend a system, and why??

    Can I just ask:

Would the solar panels be part of your buldings home Insurance or do you need to insure them seperately?

Do you need planning permission from the council?

Do you think the grants will increase in the near future to get more people to install solar panels! or even have the option of interest free green loans to finance part /all of the costs.

I am really interested in solar panels and me being half german am quite green orientated.
In Germany there are so many housholds now with solar power it makes me wonder why the government don't do much much more over here.
I will be going over in September and look into what grants and such are available over there.

In my opinion ALL viable new builds should have solar power in one form or another, whether it's realistically viable I do not know as I am not an expert.

Any thoughts oh and sorry to hijack your thread which I find very interesting

I pay £10 a year extra for them (insured to the full value) - with AA, who I have with buildings, contents and also car Insurance

Technically, you shouldn't going forward. There are some restrictions on this, like they can't stick out a certain distance from your roof, and you need special permission for a tracker in your garden, but for a bog standard roof installation, you are ok. I however, did get permission.

No - the feed in tariff will completely replace it IMO

Often talked about, but IMO a long way off. I used Interest free balance transfers from a credit card for mine anyway (I paid a small fee on it)

It's not financially viable...see rest of this thrread and other MSWE threads [eg: Solar power - always a scam?]

for solar P.V. ( electric ) from april 2010 everybody will be able to get paid 36.5 pence per unit generated and you are already entitled to £2,500 grant from the low carbon building programme, see here http://www.fitariffs.co.uk/Technologies.html
