I don't know how the contract I was given differs other than she said I was contracting for 12 months. I asked what happens at the end of the contract and she said I would receive another letter inviting me to renew?

You're obviously now on what BT calls a 'renewable contract' and you should (although some haven't recently) receive a letter a few weeks before the 12 months is up asking whether you want to renew for another 12 months (if you don't reply, the contract is automatically renewed for another 12 months).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

It may help someone to know that the Geo No for BT Options Team is 013244 50720 :naughty:
They seem the only people who know about the £1 off offer, which expires tomorrow.

    Hi djnield,

Just to clarify as your contract end term approaches a letter will be sent advising that your contract will automatically renew unless you contact us to advise otherwise. If you are a paper free customer who does not receive paper bills no letter will be sent. The renewal information will be in the calling plan section of your online account. You will also be advised from here what you need to do if you do not wish to renew your contract. If you PM your account details we will certainly have a look at your option and check your contract etc.

    Many Thanks

I am the official company representative of BT. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"

    That, clearly, is the problem.

In fact, it's a procedure which has to be changed IMHO.

I am a paper free customer and have been since they first offered the free weekend and evening option. Have just completed 12 months of that contract but I still received the renewal by letter this month. Just in case the rule has changed I will set a reminder for next year though. I only usually check the bill amount rather than drilling down further so if it was mentioned amongst the package detail I'd likely miss it.
