When will my exchange be upgraded?

I've recently moved house.
My old Internet connection was 2mb, my new home connection is only 1mb max even though I can have up to 2mb on my package.
When will the exchange be upgraded so I will be able to receive 2mb+ ?

I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!

its not the case of the exchange being upgraded - its probably more like you are too far from the exchange to have a stable 2mb connection, so you'll get 1mb instead
its basically keep it, or leave it
alternatively, try getting your ISP to give you ADSL max - which will let you have download speeds of upto 8mb.... obviously, the closer to the exchange you are, the better
for example, I can get upto 1mb as a standard connection, or the BT line checker predicts that I should get upto 3.5mb with adsl max.... the final figure (if i got it), will take 3-10 days to finalise after you order, to give you a stable connection... so I should expect a lower figure (say the high 2.Xmb to 3 and a bit mb)
to see your speed for your line, and/or adslmax speed - go to https://www.bt.com/broadband or https://www.samknows.com - either of these will do a line test for you from BT's data0 -

BT says I should be able to receive 2mb (ADSL) which I can't
BT says ADSL Max should be around 4mb.I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!0 -
I'm in the same boat. I signed up for 2MB BT broadband a year ago but have never received more than 1MB. And thanks to their 12 month contract I'm paying £25.99 a month for it.
I'm keeping a keen eye on the rumoured price war to get a better deal asap.0 -
you might just be unlucky and live on the edge of the boundary.... maybe, as broadband technology improves, the boundary soon may let your line cope with 2mb without any problems
the only real alternative, is to go for adslmax - but that still isn't a guarenteed speed0 -
Think yourselves lucky to get 1mb.Ive just recently moved to a new place which is quite away from the exchange and can only get 576kbps!0
