Having tried a number of recipes, i just cannot find a recipe for Cheese Scones that results in lovely light, springy, doughy cheesy scones. Mine turn out more like biscuits..too hard and crumbly. I'm usually an ok-ish sort of cook but this is really challenging me!
Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe for Cheese Scones please??
thanks all0 -
Hi Jolaaled,
There's an earlier thread with some tried and tested recipes for cheese scones so I've added your post to it to keep the replies together.

Hello,
I'm a recent novice convert to baking (only managed cookies and Twinks so far!) but I'm enthusiastic and willing. The problem is I have no experience/common sense in the kitchen for this type of thing and need very basic instructions!
I fancy trying some savoury cheese scones but have no idea where to start - I tried looking on the recipe index but only found sweet scones.
Can anyone help me?
I need the ingredients and very simple instructions!
Thanks in advance.0 -
In fact the be-ro site is great for novice bakers, the recipes are well tried and tested and are pretty much bullet proof...

At the bottom of their home page is an address where you can buy the book (from which the website is a copy) and that's well worth doing. Just one quick question....
Is the mustard powder essential? Can you use regular Colmans type yellow mustard instead? I have this but not the powder - can you just leave it out?
Thanks for all of your help!0 -
You can leave it out if you wish - but it does help to add a bit of zing.
If you only have ready made I think the usual advice is to use about twice as much as the recipe calls for dried. But the short answer is "Yes" you can use itHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Hi rachael,
I've added your thread to an earlier one on cheese scones to keep the recipes together. I've also had to remove a post from the thread for copyright reasons. To see the recipe follow squeaky's link and look for cheese scones.
