I printed out this recipe this morning as I'd been planning to make some cheese scones.
Then I got on with the essay and teaching plan for the student midwife I am assessing nest week (I am doing the assessors coures and am being assessed while I assess the student!!)
There I was cutting and pasting and jigging things round when to my amazement. Right in the middle of a page of 'Reasons to carry out an internal examination ' came a recipe for cheese scones ! Slightly off topic !
Maybe it should have come later....'distract the woman by offering a cheese scone ' !
Or...distract the assessor by offering cheese scones !

Well afrer follwoing your advice I made the now infamous cheese scones last night and they appeared to turn out right!:j
I only put about a teaspoon of "runny" mustard in as I was unsure whether I'd like it and think that next time I coudl do with a bit more but they're OK! AM AMAZED- I never thought I could "Bake" - I know its only easy peasy stuff to most of you but its a major triumph to me!
Just another question.... Do you eat yours with anything?
Thanks again - very much appreciated!0 -

I like mine with a little bit of cheese spread and maybe sliced tomato as well.
The mustard makes so much difference!

Does anyone use buttermilk for their cheese scones? I have a really good recipe which I use for 'sweet scones' which is self-raising flour, buttermilk thinned with a little full cream milk, sugar, salt and butter. Could I adapt this by leaving out the sugar and adding grated cheddar and English mustard? Have seen loads of cheese scone recipes online but none with buttermilk..."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the

butter was on special offer so I thought I'd make scones to take to work for lunch...saves buying bread too. But I didnt want to buy cheese as it's so expensive.
Soooo I made a batch of scone mix using 225g flour, added 3 tsp wholegrain mustard and 2 tsp basil and and dissolved a stock cube into the milk before mixing...I haven't had actual cheese scones for a while but I think these are not dissimilar
i expect a lot of people figured this out before mebut I hope it's useful for some of you. x
