Mobile phone insurance

Hello

My OH has just bought mobile phone insurance for £30. Just wondered what the general view is of mobile phone insurance?
I only had mp insurance once and cancelled it after I tried to claim for a broken phone and found out that it wasn't covered anyway.
Does anyone think it is worth it?
Thanks

My view is "no point". im gutted ive been paying 5.99 a month for mine. Cancelled last month.
Check the excess on it too, I had a £50 excess- i could have just bought a new phone for that! Additionally, if you really care you can claim off your contents insurance if lost/stolen b) you can get a perfetly good phone off ebay for less than a tenner, which will see through till the end of the contract ( get a replacment sim of course from your network( about a fiver Ive paid in the past) nad wait till your renewal date & get a snazzy one.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • Depends on how much your phone is worth and how much losing it would affect you. Personally, I wouldn't bother as I've been getting a new phone every 12 months so if I lose one I'll just go back to using an old phone (or buy a very cheap one) until my next new 12 month contract with free phone.

I was also put off by One2One messing up my claim for a replacement phone because they "had not entered the details correctly into their system" when I reported my phone lost, so the insurers refused to send a replacement and I was without for 3 months until One2One eventually apologised and sent me a phone but wouldn't refund the 3 months line rental I was unable to use!
  • I agree it does depend on the 'unconnected' value of the phone......ie Some phones are worth £200 but can be puchased for £80 on a pay n go deal and then nip down the market and unlock it for a tenner,,,,
But some phones,,,ie the newer more flash phones are very expensive to replace..talking £400
So in these cases it really is worth the insurance if you are like me and really dont want to make do with an old phone for months

Hello - thanks everyone for this info.
I have just spoken to Orange again and the excess is only £15. However, I have also spoken to my household insurance and they can provide extra cover (personal possessions outside the home) for only £8.52 for the rest of the policy (9 months or so) - the excess there is £25. So I think we will go with that!
    ta muchly.

Loyds TSB have a current asccount that gives fone/AA/holiday insurance for around £15/month - not bad value if you did buy them all seperatly.

I'm with the wouldn't bother Moneysavers!!

& as an after thought Booplyboo - you've a VERRRRY low excess on your home policy, did you see how much of a reduced premium you could get, if you upped this to, say £100 or more - bet it'd work out worthwhile - unless you're unlucky enough to make a claim!!
