Confusion around FREE Skype to Skype calls

Was hoping someone can clear this up for me. My mate is currently going travelling around south asia for a few months if he signs up to Skype and I sign up to Skype would I be able to make free calls to him no matter where he is?

Yep. It's free if you use Skype PC to PC. You only need to pay if you use Skype to call a landline/mobile.

To be honest though, I'd just use Gmail chat/voice/video (assuming you both have Gmail/Googlemail email addresses). I got fed up of ignoring/blocking random people wanting to show me their genitals on Skype.

You're lucky, I've been on skype for years and I've never had a stranger contact me to show me anything.:rotfl:

Of course if you are using on mobile phones like the three.co.uk offers then i'd check out what fee's they would charge for that using abroad. Free on PC to PC.

So its not free 3-3 even if one person is abroad?

Im, not sure about 3's pricing or anything but I have an iPhone with a skype app and if I was in Thailand for example I could speak to you for free easily.....so if the 3 phones have similar app type software on them it should be all good!!

So it's NOT free (from a 3 skypephone) to call a skype PC? What about calling from skype PC to a 3 skypephone? And what about calling other providers who offer skype on thier handsets?

Where did you get that idea from ?

You can call any Skype user from your skype mobile on the 3 network or if your using a 3 roaming partner,s network,and any Skype user should be able to call any other Skype user,whether they are mobile or fixed.

Thanks for the clarification. Just to make sure everything is understood, if I used skype on my mobile (say a nokia n70 for example) then it counts as web access, correct (and will be chargable unless I have free internet on my tariff)? BUT if I connect to a wireless network on a nearby router, and use skype via the wi-fi, then it wouldn't cost me anything?
It seems a bit misleading saying skype on a mobile doesn't cost anyhting when it DOES cost the cost of data/web access.

It is basically free to call skype to skype whether its from a pc to mobile, mobile to mobile whatever.

BUT, data here is your enemy. In the uk 3 probably include data for skype calls in your package but I very much doubt they will include it in Asia. This you must call 3 to find out, basically just ring them and say

"Hi there i will be in India next week, can I still make free calls on my skype on my mobile?"

If they say yes cal them back to double check, but I doubt it will be included
