I head the story on the radio today.

There was an EDF salesman lurking in the supermarket tonight. So when he asked me if I was interested I told him about the story. A few people nearby were smirking.

To be fair, the 'poor service' was in relation to the connection of new building property connection requests from property developers, rather than more general domestic client services.
On the other hand, I have been in dispute with EDF in its home territory in France for the past two years over the most appalling service imaginable. (Over charging for supplies, charging for visits by engineers at 27 euros a time that were never made although we waited in for them, written promises to amend contracts and services that were never acted on, etc etc.) The last I heard was a letter in January saying that they were 'investigating' my complaints and request for reimbursement and compensation- even though they had already accepted that they were in the wrong. I am just gearing myself up wearily for a further follow up. (It tests my French to the limit!) I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole here, but sadly they have a virtual monopoly in France, and there is no regulator to appeal to. I guess I will still be dealing with this at Christmas.

108 cases where they failed to meet their obligations out of an estimated 15,000 in the period in question - that's less than 0.75%
Each affected customer was compensated on average to the sum of almost £4500.
Maybe the other shoppers were smirking because they saw the energy salesman actually entice someone into discussion. That's being kind! If they actually knew the point you were trying to make, then they were probably smirking at the ridiculous allegations you were attempting to imply."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
